Areas of Responsibility: 

Financial:

  • Manages the accounting department in compliance with federal and state law, corporate procedures and guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles. Directly supervises the finance manager and payroll specialist.
  • Supervises the processes for campaign accounts receivable, billing, collections, pledge and donor designation processing, and accounts payable.
  • Prepares timely and accurate reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in the areas of revenue, expenses, cash flow and earnings.
  • Advises management about risk management, accounting guidelines, audit results and other related matters.
  • Strong attention to internal processes and procedures; suggests improvements where needed.  Furthermore, possesses the ability to prepare written documentation of such procedures.
  • Coordinates the month-end and year-end closing process.
  • Prepares and reviews monthly analysis of financial results.
  • Supports the annual financial statement audit and preparation of IRS Form 990. Ensures collection and preparation of all work-papers, reports, back-up documentation, and analysis required for the completion of the financial statement audit and IRS Form 990 submission.
  • Manages the annual process of budget preparation.
  • Provides strategic insights to CEO, Vice President of Operations and other senior leaders relative to cash management, cost management and other financial matters.
  • Serves as the finance liaison to the board of directors and finance committee; effectively communicates and presents critical financial matters at select board of directors and committee meetings.
  • Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compiles special reports as requested.
  • Works to continuously identify, streamline and improve systems and processes to advance the department’s and organization’s capabilities and resources.
  • Supervises the preparation of payroll, related records, reports, tax deposits and wage statements.

  • Comfortable and proactive with developing, recommending and introducing new ideas and/or methods. Takes proactive steps to manage and/or improve all work tasks and operations.
  • Appropriately delegates work assignments, gives authority to work independently, sets expectations and monitors delegated activities.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration.  Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant strongly preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong working knowledge of nonprofit accounting and experience in organizations with multiple and complex revenue streams including individual donor fundraising, private grants & foundations, state & federal government grants, sponsorships, service & registration fees, investment income, etc.
  • 5 to 10 years of similar experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity in Accounting.
  • Professional demeanor and good communication skills with the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills (record keeping, time management, follow up, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and sense of urgency, ability to prioritize with an emphasis on quality and accuracy of work.
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and customer service skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and deal with interruptions while meeting timely deadlines.
  • High degree of math skills, problem-solving skills and strong ability to perform detailed and complex numerical computations and reports.
  • Experienced working with accounting software such as Sage Intacct, Microsoft Word & Excel, and using CRM/ERP tools such as StratusLive or MicroSoft Dynamics.
