The Executive Director of the United Way of Franklin County is responsible to the Board of Directors. He/she serves as the principal, professional resource to the Board and, in cooperation with the Board, represents the United Way to the community. The community includes a constituency of givers, recipients of service, individuals, agencies, governments, businesses and other institutions.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Assures the continuity of top level volunteer direction for the United Way through a program of cultivation, recruitment, training, and motivation of community leadership.
- Assists the volunteer leadership to identify and solve community problems and develop long-range strategic plans to meet community health and welfare needs.
- Cultivates and develops cooperative relationships with government and community groups to fund and implement effective human service systems.
- Recommends organizational plans, policies and procedures as necessary for effective operation of the United Way. Staffs the organization with competent and effective staff and assures their continued professional development.
- Guides and supports the activities of staff and volunteers in the following:
- Planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating a United Way fund-raising program within the framework of a volunteer campaign structure and in accordance with the principles of United Way.
- Managing financial resources, including operating budgets, collection, disbursements and accounting for all funds, property and official records.
- Developing effective and efficient support systems for the organization including computer service, training, purchasing, personnel and a data base.
- Enhancing public understanding and support of human service needs through a coordinated communication program.
- Coordinating plans to meet human service needs, utilizing the capabilities of the voluntary and governmental sectors.
- Allocating United Way resources in accordance with priority needs, recognizing contractual relationships with member or affiliated agencies and emphasizing considerations of efficiency and effectiveness.
- Enhancing the effectiveness of affiliated agencies.
- Providing leadership to fund-raising and human services delivery.
- Long Range planning for financial and service needs.
