Lead research and evaluation relating to Brown County United Way program investments, impact initiatives, and advocacy efforts. Work with internal staff and various community partners to help promote and advance the work of Brown County United Way and its Impact Framework.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as research and evaluation lead for the Brown County United Way Impact Framework, which is comprised of the following interconnected components designed to drive systems change: program investment, impact initiatives, and advocacy.
  • Review and synthesize academic literature on best practices for working with Brown County United Way target populations; i.e., households living in traditional poverty or that are ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed).
  • Develop theories of change or logic models (as applicable) and data collection methods relating to the Impact Framework.
  • Evaluate the short, mid, and longer-term results of programs, policies, initiatives, and projects within the Impact Framework.
  • Generate progress reports.
  • Provide guidance to Brown County United Way grantees on outcome requirements and expectations. Foster related Communities of Practice/Learning Communities.
  • Provide training and/or guidance to staff and agencies on data collection tools and techniques.
  • Collaborate with the internal grants team to write grants to help support the work of Brown County United Way. Identify local and national research and data on topics related to grant-specific proposals. Ensure successful implementation of grant-specific program evaluations and reporting.
  • Assist with the supervision of interns and ad-hoc personnel as necessary.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Brown County United Way policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Public Administration, Planning or related degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research and evaluation work, especially mixed methods and the implementation of data collection tools.
  • Experience with the use of statistical software.
  • Demonstrated skills in providing training and technical assistance for program evaluation.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledgeable of nonprofit program design and management.
  • Understanding of the component parts of a program theory of change/logic model and the linkages between the component parts (i.e., inputs, activities, outputs; levels of outcomes).
  • Demonstrated experience in designing work plans and managing for results.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with staff members, volunteers, contributors, agencies, etc.
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team including staff and volunteers; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and boards of directors.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities; ability to react and adjust quickly to changing conditions.
  • Ability to complete complex and time-sensitive work.
  • Experience in working with software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel or other similar programs.
