Performs casework in the United Way’s 211 program, assesses the needs of clients and assists them in finding the community resources that will address their needs.  Contributes to assuring community resource information is current.  In the interest of community collaboration, is a member of external committees.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Accurately assess clients’ needs and provides thorough, appropriate, and helpful referrals to address those needs; uses direct intervention and advocacy when needed and agreed to by the client; processes applications for direct financial assistance within specified guidelines.
  • Maintains current information on available community resources and ensure that other resources are aware of the function of United Way’s 211 in order to maximize the effectiveness of the program in meeting client needs.
  • Demonstrates appropriate level of skill on HWMUW computer hardware and software.
  • Completes special projects/duties as assigned.
  • Serves on internal and community (cross-functional and ad hoc) committees as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  
  • Moderate level of analytical skills.

Independent Judgment and Consequence of Errors: 

  • High level of independent thinking and judgment.
  • High level of assessment skills.
  • High level of decision making.
  • Errors in judgment could potentially do minimal damage to the organization financially, the organization's public image, and employee relations.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field preferred.  
  • 1+ years experience in human services or related field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office computer applications.
  • Ability to work 36 hours per week between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm weekdays. Upon an emergency or scheduling crisis must be able to work additional hours.
  • High level of organization and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team-based environment.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
  • Moderate level of stress caused from high call volume.
  • High level of mental and/or visual fatigue and/or eyestrain may result from looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional work outside of normal business hours.
  • Periodic travel is required.
  • Moderate to high office noise level.
