The Community Engagement & Development Manager, creates and implements strategies to engage and involve citizens and people groups, and develop partnerships with corporate, government, education, faith, and civic groups to support the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Garland (HFHGG.) The CEDM crafts and coordinates messaging, marketing, and development initiatives/materials for effective engagement through website, social media channels, email marketing, general marketing initiatives, and personal live presentations.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Operational

  • Develop and maintain programs that engage people in Habitat’s volunteer activities and service programs.
  • Network to build partnerships with government, education, faith, civic and business groups developing financial sponsorship and grant opportunities for/with the same.
  • Develop and implement a consistent communications strategy for building, strengthening, and maintaining community relationships.
  • Engage corporations and civic groups to develop partnerships and financial sponsorships for construction activities and special initiatives.
  • Plan and implement affiliate outreach events to build brand awareness and engage patrons by creating entry points to all facets of the HFHGG mission.
  • Engage local churches to support incoming work teams w/ food, lodging (when needed), etc.
  • Oversee the Family Services aspects of the affiliate including reception and processing of Home Owner Partner applications, and interfacing with Board and FS Committee members.

Staff & Volunteer Management

  • Oversee the Volunteer Coordinator’s management of:
  • Community Service volunteers working in ReStore and on build sites.
  • Scheduling of volunteer activities and tracking volunteer forms/hours.
  • Ensuring that safety policies are understood and adhered to during outreach activities.
  • Recruit, train and manage Community Outreach/Engagement volunteers.
  • Work with the Veterans Build Coordinator and others to promote the VB initiative.
  • Function as the AmeriCorps Host Site Manager (HSM) maintaining compliance with the CNCS requirements and ensuring timely reporting to the same.
  • Primary Lead on AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon, May/June 2020 – coordinating all aspects to provide for a successful event. Oversee VISTA assigned to Build-a-Thon coordination.

Administration & Support

  • Utilize Habitat for Humanity International resources and participate in learning opportunities that support job scope.
  • Support Board committees in effective community outreach/engagement efforts.
  • Support Executive Director and other key Board members, volunteers, and staff to ensure goals and objectives are met and/or exceeded.

Development & Finance

  • Using GrantStation seek and identify opportunities to apply for grants which align with HFHGGs mission and service programs.
  • Oversee VISTA member tasked to write grants and do fundraising
  • Build and cultivate donor portfolios and an individual donor database.
  • Engage leaders of potential sponsor groups to procure financial sponsorships.
  • Apply for macro level funding through grants, foundations, HFHI, and other sources.
  • Develop and manage a community engagement/development budget. Review and code receipts/bills with the finance office on a weekly/monthly basis.

Reporting & Communications

  • Track and evaluate program and performance data, documenting both qualitative and quantitative data for reporting and development purposes.
  • Using Constant Contact consistently communicate with stakeholders.
  • Manage CRM through software programs such as Constant Contact and Galaxy Digital Volunteer management.
  • Data entry into CRM systems - all information including but not limited to contact information, engagement metrics (Purpose & Channel), notes, outcomes, etc.
  • Communicate program status on a regular basis and report/discuss activity plans and engagement metrics with the Executive Director.
  • Prepare a community engagement outcomes monthly report to be shared with appropriate board committees.
  • Maintain a schedule of all community outreach/engagement events and post on the affiliate master office calendar.
  • Provide ongoing and regular updates of operational and financial matters to the Executive Director.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) required, preferably in business, leadership, or MarCom.
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of 3 years in a responsible leadership role, successfully directing staff, groups, and volunteers.
  • Previous experience with Habitat (HFH) is preferable.
  • MUST have a track record of efficiency, reliability, and productivity.
  • MUST have a high tolerance for stress, ambiguity, and having others rely on your leadership.
  • MUST have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deal well with a diverse variety of people, personalities, ages and backgrounds.
  • MUST have solid computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office programs.
  • Must be a good listener, able to engage in well-considered discussions, use integrative thinking processes, and work well with other staff members.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, prioritize, coordinate, delegate and manage multiple work activities (multi-task.)
  • Highly organized with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A history of successfully adapting to rapidly changing conditions with unexpected shifts in priorities.
  • Ability to organize and/or participate in public events.
  • Ability to safely lift and position up to 25 lbs.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Exempt Salary Range: $38,000 - $42,000 annually
