United Way of Johnson County is looking for an entry-level social work or human services candidate for the new Helpline Assistant position. The Helpline Assistant would join an existing team of six staff to assume the daily responsibilities of the Helpline program, including answering over 1,500 calls each year from Johnson County residents in need of resource and referral information; maintaining and building relationships with community resources; and completing required documentation of callers’ needs and referrals made. The Helpline Assistant will report to the Impact Director and work closely with the Impact Director on several other United Way of Johnson County programs, including Operation Bundle Up (winter coat collection and distribution), Christmas Angels, and the No Place to Call Home program (homeless prevention and intervention).
- Manage daily Helpline operations to ensure high quality of services.
- Answer all Helpline calls and provide resource and referral information to callers and keep accurate data collection of callers’ needs, referrals made, and other statistical information
- Develop and manage all information and referral databases.
- Research, develop and assist in the production of resource directories.
- Assist in updating community information.
- Maintain and update all Helpline forms.
- Produce monthly, quarterly and annual statistical client reports.
- Orient and train all new volunteer data entry assistants
- Assist No Place to Call Home Program
- Assist the Impact Director with Operation Bundle Up, including managing the planning committee, working with collection locations, recruiting volunteers for the program, and event set up and implementation
- Assist Impact Director with the Christmas assistance program, including phone support for applicants and donors and data entry of applications
- Assist with other functions of United Way of Johnson County, including but not limited to, Fast Track, Day of Caring, Annual Celebration and Kick Off
- Operational knowledge of information and referral services

- Experience working with volunteers
- Available to work some evenings and weekends
Salary: $31,000 to $40,000 per year
