The Senior Vice President, Community Investment and Development provides leadership, strategic vision and direction to the organization in the areas of workplace campaign, marketing and promotions, major gifts, resource development planning, grants, collaboration and management, community outreach, volunteer engagement, and Days of Caring program supervision. The SVP, Community Investment and Development works closely with the organization’s Leadership Team to ensure donor-centricity and to communicate key messages that drive community and donor investments. 

The SVP, Community Investment and Development oversees all personnel responsible for Corporate Relations, Donor Relations, and Volunteer Relations including individuals responsible for administrative assistance.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Management and evaluation of the Community Relations, Donor Relations, Volunteer Relations and all related events including workplace campaigns
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team and particularly the President and CEO, EVP and Chief Operating Officer, and SVP, Community Investment to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key volunteers and donors
  • Develop and execute on specific campaign plans for each donor function (corporate, individual, grants, etc.)
  • Develop and analyze statistical measurements of the annual campaign
  • Recruit, develop and manage a high level volunteer Campaign Cabinet
  • Manage the full range of activities required to prospect, prepare, submit, manage and account for grant proposals to foundation, corporate, and federal sources, including compliance with all required grant reporting
  • Collaborate with the EVP and Chief Human Resources Officer to manage the staffing levels and workload distribution for the team, including personnel recruitment, management, development, recognition and retention
  • Monitor and track major changes in the marketplace, both philanthropic and economic, and provide strategic direction
  • Collaborate to develop and implement the organizational strategic plan
  • Develop and manage annual budget and the allocation of the department’s budget
  • Work in partnership with Leadership Team to incorporate strategic messaging in all aspects of volunteer, staff training and printed materials
  • Oversee recruitment, orientation, training and involvement of volunteers for Campaign and other fund development committees
  • Oversee management of database systems
  • Supervise the administration of United Way’s Volunteer Relations and Day of Caring program that matches volunteers with appropriate community service projects and opportunities
  • Promote and monitor year round customer sensitivity, as well as practice effective cultivation and account management within the market place
  • Work in partnership with area United Ways to maximize United Way of  Tarrant County’s  Community Relations, Donor Relations, Volunteer Relations efforts
  • Set agendas, support volunteer leadership and promote attendance at key leadership meetings
  • Additional projects as assigned
Educational Background: 
College degree or comparable requisite experience in a related field required; Master level degree in a related field preferred
Skills/Experience: 

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States (No Sponsorship)
  • 7+ years of experience with demonstrated success in a management level business development/fundraising function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources), preferably within a non-profit organization
  • 5+ years of experience in leading, coaching and developing direct report staff
  • 5+ years of fundraising management experience at a non for profit and a demonstrated track record of accomplishments within a similar role
  • Staying abreast of emerging resources and tools that facilitate team’s ability to research and gain donations
  • High energy and passion for United Way’s mission is essential
  • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor and community relationships over time
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build effective long-term relationships
  • Ability to construct, articulate, and implement the annual strategic development plan
  • Strong ability to translate business objectives and strategies to develop plans to facilitate organizational growth in the area of resource development
  • A professional and resourceful style with the ability to work independently and as a team player to take initiative and to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives
  • Customer/donor-focused

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $91,000 to $100,000 per year
