The Director of Donor Relations develops and implements year round strategies to maximize growth with individuals and family foundations to support the annual campaign. This department is crucial for United Way of Tarrant County to deliver world-class donor experiences that align with their respective areas of passion and philanthropic goals.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • The Director of Donor Relations oversees the Donor Relations Managers and donor relations staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize and execute projects with the customer (donor) in the forefront of all we do
  • Identify, solicit, document and monitor contributions for all donors in the areas of Leadership Giving - $1,000-$9,999 and Alexis De Tocqueville Society - $10,000 and above
  • Responsible for growth of assigned portfolio against annual revenue plan
  • Responsible for the solicitation of family foundations and other entities for donations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with prospects in the area of Major Gifts
  • Identify, recruit, orient, cultivate and manage volunteers in order to carry out donor engagement as described in the strategic plan
  • Coordinate planning and implementation of research and analysis to ensure campaign effectiveness and maximize donor satisfaction and organization involvement and support
  • Plan and implement all action steps required to fully manage department including securing timely written confirmation of all pledge commitments and monitoring pledge fulfillment
  • Organize and oversee affinity group leadership process
  • Implement strategy for membership growth across affinity groups
  • Oversight of financial projections with an emphasis the following key metrics: donor retention, gift growth and planned gifts.
  • Additional duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor level degree in Communication, Marketing, Business or related discipline required
CFRE designation is a plus
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States (No Sponsorship)
  • 7+ years of experience in a United Way Resources Development division or related major gifts experience
  • 3+ years of experience in leading, coaching and developing direct report staff
  • Must have excellent networking abilities
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Exceptional communications skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, maturity, good judgment and be capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • Must have experience developing plans of action, including project review and measurement
  • Excellent leadership, team building, interpersonal and time management skills
  • A high energy, results-oriented leader and must be a self-starter with little supervision required
  • An individual with the utmost professional and personal integrity
  • Personal values consistent with United Way mission
