Lead the development and execution of an integrated strategy that will drive revenue growth and constituent engagement as measured by growth in UWACs impact, relevance and revenue.
Areas of Responsibility:
Community Campaign Execution – 40%
- Supervise staff members responsible for serving organizations sponsoring workforce campaigns. Assign accounts based on workload balance, experience, relationships and developmental opportunities.
- In collaboration with key volunteers, personally run key select account campaigns.
- Collaborate and lead UWAC Labor Liaison to maximize effectiveness and results from workplaces with organized labor.
- Collaborate with UWAC Agency Partner Relationship Manager to maximize campaign effectiveness and results from agency partners.
- Train and develop staff members as to best practices, coach as to ways to best build long term relationships and improve campaign outcomes for assigned accounts.
- Review and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of community campaign efforts and apply appropriate strategies and tactics to correct or improve results.
- Ensure that staff member(s) assigned to provide administrative support to campaign operations is properly trained and supervised and procedures are appropriately documented and followed. Constantly research and implement practices that will improve productivity, quality and turnaround time.
- Lead process with staff and key volunteers to review customer accounts, analyze data, set goals and develop tactical strategies to increase employee and corporate contributions.
- Ensure that internal account owners monitor pledge collections and uncollectable accounts, consulting and collaborating with Finance Department as needed.
- Lead efforts to substantially grow individual leadership level giving both inside and outside the workplace. Take personal ownership of relationship with certain key individual leadership donors and support CEO and key volunteers as they provide primary relationship with other key leadership givers. Develop and mentor staff members assigned other key leadership giver relationships.
- Lead efforts to understand, evaluate and reduce donor churn, with a particular focus on lapsed leadership level givers.
- Evaluate, define, refine and implement strategies, processes, procedures and systems for community campaign reporting, and for internal/third party services including contribution processing. Ensure that results related to community campaign are appropriately reported, analyzed, understood, communicated and interpreted.
- Champion staff and other United Way employee stakeholders in the effective utilization of our Customer Relationship Management System – ANDAR. Lead by example in personal commitment to capture and maintain accurate account/donor notes, examine untapped system capabilities and leverage all available reporting and analysis tools.
- Cultivate relationships with other United Way organizations regarding mutual development, collaboration and communication efforts with accounts held in common.
Resource Development Strategy – 20%
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of fundraising best practices and strategies including research of peer and comparable local United Ways.
- Monitor major changes in the local marketplace, both philanthropic and economic and provide strategic direction based on that information.
- Develop, update and monitor diversified strategic plan to sustain and increase revenue from the following areas: workforce giving, corporate gifts, local foundations, individual contributions, major gifts, grants, planned gifts, affinity groups and events.
- Lead and execute Resource Development Marketing events including collateral creation and procurement.
- Develop, implement and monitor strategies that will specifically feature and leverage our opportunity to maximize the potential available through the Robert Goldstine Foundation grant to incentivize leadership level giving.
- Develop, implement and monitor strategies that allow UWAC to maximize Community Campaign results and total revenue available through matching programs provided by the Indiana Association of United Ways.
- Collaborate with Community Impact staff to identify and leverage opportunities for increasing corporate, leadership and foundation giving by connecting donor intent and interest with key initiatives of United Way.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications staff to identify and create targeted messaging and collateral materials that highlight the various facets of outcomes United Way funding supports, feature the unique roles of United Way in the community, is customized to the appropriate donor audience and emphasizes a clear call to action to give, advocate and volunteer.
- Lead organizational efforts to research, develop and implement strategies that employ web based and social media tools to engage existing and potential donors.
- Lead organizational efforts to research, develop and implement strategies designed to move a volunteer base engaged in UWAC initiatives to levels of initial or increased financial support.
Affinity Groups and Event Management – 10%
- Supervise employee assigned to support Women United affinity group and all UWAC events including Day of Caring.
- Work closely with Community Impact to develop, implement and monitor strategies to increase participation in and financial support from Women United affinity group through alignment with Early Childhood initiatives.
- Research and develop additional affinity group initiatives including African/American and Young Leaders.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive annual event sponsorship plan and secure corporate commitments for same.
- Oversee Day of Caring plans and activities, leverage relationships with key Community Campaign accounts and explore and implement ideas to increase participation and alignment with UWAC initiatives.
- Ensure that ANDAR is fully utilized to track all event attendees and appropriate follow up engagement activities are designed and implemented.
Volunteer Management – 10%
- Provide primary staff leadership and professional expertise in recruiting Community Campaign volunteers and in organizing and developing successful campaign strategies and timetables.
- Ensure that all Community Campaign volunteers have appropriate training, critical information regarding the UWAC organization, its mission and key initiatives and that their time is effectively and efficiently utilized.
- Provide organizational leadership to design and ensure policies and procedures are implemented and followed regarding the use of ANDAR to track all volunteer activities (including board and committee members) and that appropriate follow up engagement activities are considered and executed.
Leadership Responsibilities – 10%
- Participate as a key member of UWAC leadership team, collaborating with other departments to achieve organizational objectives.
- Serve as a key spokesperson for the organization, must be an effective advocate and communicator in articulating the importance and roles of UWAC, able to motivate and mobilize a wide spectrum of donors, volunteers and other stakeholders to support organizational objectives.
- Represents UWAC at conferences, functions and speaking engagements throughout UWAC service area, presenting a professional image and promoting United Way’s value to constituents.
- Identify and develop strategic partnerships with other United Ways, not for profit organizations, business and professional associations and other organizations.
- Prepare and manage assigned departmental budget and initiatives.
- Perform other duties, which may be related to, but not listed in, the job description.
Supervisory Duties – 10%
- Provide ongoing training, direction, coaching and supervision for Resource Development staff including the assignment and review of work assignments.
- Evaluates Resource Development staff experience and performance and uses team building and motivational techniques, additional training, and organizational disciplinary protocols as appropriate to continually improve departmental professionalism, performance and to drive results.
- Develop and implement growth plan for staff to obtain appropriate training and education.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure the attainment of organizational goals for revenue generation and growth for key segments; individual, workplace, corporate, major gifts, foundations, etc.
- Partner closely with Board and key funder leadership to develop and support their fundraising potential.
- Identify new opportunities and trends in products and services that have the potential to engage key donor segments, maximize growth and drive the organization’s community change agenda.
- Provide strong direction and management for the development team, including the effective management of systems, processes, and measurements to monitor, project, and guide fundraising results and activity.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, marketing, communications or nonprofit management.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of sales management or fundraising experience
- Expertise in strategic and operational resource development planning (both short- and long-term).
- A leadership record that includes effective staff development, distributed leadership and accountability; able to build a positive team culture to achieve departmental goals and objectives as well as influence individuals who are not direct reports.
- Ability to identify opportunities, relationships and partnerships for new/increased revenue generation; must be able to work collaboratively throughout the organization to successfully bring those opportunities to fruition.
- Proven ability to effectively evaluate, analyze and interpret fundraising data and information to advance all development activities.
- “Hands on” experience with fundraising software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on the ability to persuade and influence others around ideas, decisions, and financial support.
- Highly effective relationship building skills including one-to-one interpersonal networking; ability to leverage and communicate effectively with diverse audiences: executive leaders, board members, donors, constituents, and staff.
- Strong communication, listening and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate the mission and messages in a compelling manner in individual and group settings; confidence to assert, present perspective, engage others and influence outcomes..

- Ability to handle confidential information and management of a variety of responsibilities
- Valid Indiana Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance coverage and daily access to a personal vehicle.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, outside of the standard office hours of Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the possibility of early morning, evening and weekend hours being needed.
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily carried out in a controlled, agreeable environment as generally represented by normal office conditions.
Physical Requirements:
- Physical exertion includes bending, pushing, standing, sitting, and walking.
- Must be able upon occasion to move or lift and carry bags and boxes up to 25 pounds in weight.
- The employee will frequently be required audibly to address large groups of people in an indoor setting.
- Good vision and good hearing acuity (with glasses and hearing aids if necessary).
- Skill in use of computer screens and manual dexterity skill in use of keyboard.
