The purpose of this position is to establish and grow relationships and solicitations of high-net-worth donors and prospects along with executing the goals of the workplace campaign by overseeing the professionals division and promoting planned giving on behalf of United Way of Allen County. The position is accountable for generating new and increased contributions via the annual campaign and special initiatives. The position requires a year-round and multi-year planning and execution process designed to ensure consistent and evolving activity and gift acquisition. The position will personally manage a portfolio of donors and prospects with significant major gift potential. The Sr. Manager will develop and maintain revenue streams required to advance the community impact work of the organization.
The Sr. Donor Relations Manager will report to the Vice President of Engagement Strategies and forge strong working relationships with in the community, with the Engagement Strategies team, and with current Tocqueville financial partners to facilitate growth and stewardship relationships at United Way through individual and planned gifts.
The Sr. Donor Relations Manager must have passion for the mission and values of United Way, with a strong interest in marketing social impact products focused on health, education and financial stability while providing quality, effective account management and whom works to develop relationships that engage and enhance donor and volunteer connections.
RELATIONSHIP BUILDING AND SOLICITATIONS - 75%
- Manage year-round relationships to establish and cultivate long-term relationships.
- Create donor strategies and proposals with focus on growth and retention.
- Meet or exceed annual fundraising key performance indicators as developed by United Way leadership. The VP of Engagement Strategies will meet with the Sr. Manager on a regular basis to review progress.
- Assist in identifying and recruiting volunteers for the campaign. Accompany volunteers on selected corporate calls. Solicit corporations and individuals on behalf of United Way. Provide accurate reports and materials to volunteers on a timely basis. Communicate with volunteers on a regular basis to monitor progress towards achieving goals.
- Remain conversant in Planned Giving vehicles/techniques and financial and estate planning concepts.
- Work across the organization to better cultivate our donors and identify new ones. Leverage prospect management and prospect research best practices.
- Participate or lead departmental or organizational project teams as requested.
- CAMPAIGN | Perform research and analysis of assigned campaigns for the purpose of campaign growth and expansion, working the VP of Engagement Strategies when appropriate to create strategy and commitment to campaign growth; delivers supplies and/or picks up campaign donations, conducts presentations before groups of varying sizes. Cultivates new relationships resulting in new corporate gifts and/or employee campaigns. Proactively responds to campaign coordinators' questions, schedules and confirms appointments/ activities and other miscellaneous duties.
- MAJOR GIFTS | Conduct a minimum of 50 personal visits annually to cultivate or solicit major gifts to meet long-term major gift revenue goals. Take a leadership role in soliciting major gifts for assigned impact initiatives. Maintain record of all cultivation strategies, contacts, solicitations, and results of contacts with prospects and donors in the database of record.
- TOCQUEVILLE | Responsible for soliciting gifts of $10,000 and higher in addition to maintaining annual gift support from a portfolio of current and prospective donors. Retain a portfolio of community and workplace Tocqueville Society members and prospects. Ensure that all Tocqueville Society data is current, appropriate to goals and outcomes, and supports Donor Engagement needs. Offer staff support for Tocqueville Society Chair and Committee Members.
ADMINISTRATION – 25%
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality as required of donor and volunteer relationships.
- Gain a solid understanding of United Way programs and initiatives.
- Prepare reports of campaign results, campaign analyses, weekly reports reflecting tasks and accomplishments, and other reports as needed for volunteers and upper management staff. Input and maintain accurate information on assigned accounts utilizing the Andar database, retrieve and analyze campaign information for reports, update projections and schedule educational events. Coordinate the internal management of campaign information - clerical, record keeping, and data resources for the assigned areas of campaign responsibility. Provide liaison with the finance department in the submission and verification of campaign information. Complete all paperwork to close out workplace employee campaigns with United Way and workplace payroll departments within specified time frames.
- Maintain on-going information sharing with all departments. In addition to working independently, participate in organizational activities and serve on staff teams and committees as necessary. Participates regularly in community activities and events to enhance the image and position of United Way.
- At least five years of one–on-one major gifts ($10,000 or more) fundraising experience. 5-7 years successful experience in a fundraising, sales and/or account management role.
- Will consider candidate with equivalent education and experience.
- Outstanding written communication skills—for proposal preparation, communications with donors, and reports (such as newsletters and annual reports)—and oral communication skills for individual and group presentations, etc.
- A personal leadership and management style that promotes collaboration and accessibility.
- Demonstrated capability to identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts from individuals, businesses and private foundations.
- Basic understanding of corporate and foundation grants process.
- Basic understanding of planned giving.
- Basic understanding corporate sponsorships.
- Knowledge of and experience with the Allen County philanthropic community desired.
- Experience working with high-level decision makers, trustees, and other volunteers.

Salary: $41,000 to $50,000 per year
