The incumbent will work to create, build, and sustain relationships with business leaders, corporations, employees, volunteers and individuals throughout Broward County with an aggressive focus on time spent in the field. The position is expected to have in-depth knowledge of assigned accounts, with a clear understanding of unique and priority opportunities.  The position will establish and execute a plan that focuses on service and presence, supported by effective information tracking systems.  The Senior Development Officer will always be looking to build new partnerships and deepen/elaborate upon existing relationships.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Be the Lead Development Officer for assigned highest value workplace accounts.
  • Prepares and executes year-round engagement and relationship plans for company accounts with a focus on maximizing potential and growth. 
  • Develop and oversee implementation of relationship strategies and goals.
  • Regularly manages and maintains effective working relationships with key contacts for each account relationship within assigned division.  
  • Develops and adapts engagement plans for challenging companies.
  • Will assist and/or manage Development Officers with account management as needed.
  • Focus on attracting and developing new partnerships.

Other Job Duties:

  • Work directly with the Major Gifts and Legacy Giving teams to engage high-level donors and businesses.
  • Facilitate frequent and strategic communication with Leadership Donors. Manage donor contact and tracking of existing and prospective donors.
  • Identify and implement fundraising, volunteer, sponsorship and advocacy opportunities for leadership donors.
  • Responsible for data gathering, research, and analysis for goal setting and projections, prepares sales reports and other reports as assigned
  • Keep appropriate records of calls, relationships information, strategies and goals.
  • Ability to effectively present information, through public speaking and presentations, to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Promote leadership and teamwork, and consistently maintains effective communication with UWBC staff, volunteers, stakeholders, account CEO/Employee Campaign Managers (ECMs) and Campaign Associates.
  • Understands and supports United Way’s strategic direction in the community. 
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by Vice President, Workplace Campaigns.
  • Due to the leadership role United Way is called upon to play in the community, particularly during times of crisis, it is the expectation that all United Way staff will be available and fully engaged in the organization's crisis plan and response efforts.

Supervises: Development Officers, Campaign Associates & Volunteers

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s in Business or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 4+ years of strong history and experience in a direct sales, business development and/or fundraising and sponsorships. 
  • Must be good with meeting new people and comfortable in a sales-type role which requires a lot of outreach and cold calling. 
  • Must be a good writer, capable of drafting concise but informational emails and texts.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Experience working with or knowledge of United Way operations a plus.
  • Administrative and supervisory experience working with volunteers and staff preferred.  
  • Must be driven and self-motivated.

Environment & Physical Demands: The environment is climate controlled (i.e., heated and air-conditioned).  Lighting is adequate through overhead lighting as well as windows and blinds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Physical demands include sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, bending, lifting approximately 25 pounds, regular use of the telephone, copier, fax and computer.  Demands also involve protracted concentration.
