The Associate Director, Individual Philanthropy, will possess frontline fundraising experience and be an integral member of the Major Gifts development team.  This position is responsible for building and maintaining a strong base of major gift support from individuals across the U.S.. This person will be responsible for maintaining relationships with existing major donors, identifying prospects, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding both new and existing donors for annual support, planned giving, and towards Save the Children’s $100 million, 3-year Centennial Campaign.  This position is located in Fairfield, CT.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Initiate, deepen and maintain strong relationships with portfolio of donors (the majority of which are based in the tri-state area) – identifying prospects and cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding existing and new major donors. (30%)
  • Execute donor cultivation and solicitation strategies, make ongoing assessments about their efficacy, and modify fundraising strategies as needed, to meet revenue targets. (25%)
  • Prepare strategy, briefing and debriefing materials for face-to-face meetings with donors. (10%)
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with colleagues in Resource Development, program staff in both U.S. Programs and International Programs, and members of other departments at Save the Children. (10%)
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in the fundraising database and track progress using major gifts’ custom reports. (10%)
  • Perform other duties as related or assigned, including special projects and management of interns or other voluntary staff. (8%)
  • Promote, assist in the planning of, and attend donor events and trips to the field. (7%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in client interfacing role (donor meetings, emails, phone, etc.) with at least 2 years of the experience in fundraising
  • Proven ability to build relationships with high net worth individuals.
  • Strong creative thinking capability to develop engagement strategies with maximum impact.
  • Exceptional listener with ability to understand the needs and motivations of others, find common ground and synthesize information into compelling narratives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Flexibility to travel required (should be limited).
  • Professional presentation and demeanor that inspires confidence in high net worth prospects, donors and Save the Children Trustees.
  • Detail orientation and strategic point of view.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and discipline in stewarding donor information and database records.
  • Adherence to the highest ethical standards.
