Summary

The Manager, Strategic Foundation Partnerships, is a key contributing member of the Strategic Foundation Partnerships team liaising with foundations, which support Save the Children. S/he assists in identifying new revenue generating activities with new and existing foundation partners to support Save the Children's domestic and international programs.  This comes in the form of supporting others in large and complex partnerships, and being responsible for managing and growing their own partnerships in order to reach department revenue goals.

This position requires a person with energy, drive and experience who will engage in all aspects of prospecting and fundraising. He/she will work independently to raise funds through proposal development and support to colleagues. He/she will coordinate with the writing team, provide high-level backup support to the SFP team and maintain/update donor database as needed. The position provides consistent and engaged support to the group and develops independent prospects and foundation relationships.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Prospect Research Management (25%):Manage prospect research by supporting small team in reviewing requests for proposal by major foundations which may include:

  • Reviewing a broad range of philanthropy resources, and conducting research with Foundation Center and others on an ongoing basis and as requested.
  • Support research of current high-level donors to determine interests and opportunities to grow the relationships. Conduct periodic prospect research for long- term development programs.
  • Research industry trends, and share this information with the team to help grow the prospect list for foundation funding.

Account Management & Growth (35%): Manage a portfolio of assigned foundation partners as well as potential foundation partners through the following responsibilities:

  • Support the development of engagement strategies for current and expand foundation partnerships.
  • Raise new revenue from existing and new donors by identifying prospects and developing strategies for seeking new support or renewing support of SC programs. This includes submitting proposals and letters of inquiry, and communicating with or visiting foundation program officers.
  • Work with writing unit on concept notes, LOIs and grant proposals to meet foundation objectives.
  • Establish and maintain a quick and steady pace of communications and face-to-face visits and track progress utilizing a customer relationship management system.
  • Provide quality management of existing grants and commitments from current foundation donors as assigned.

Department Support (30%): Work closely with the Director, Senior Director, and as needed, the AVP in their cultivation and stewardship of large-scale foundation donors. This can include the gathering and development of materials to submit to donors, assisting in proposal development, coordinating the distribution of materials to donors, or serving as second solicitor as assigned.

Special Projects (10%): Contribute towards the implementation of the Strategic Foundation Partnerships strategic plans as required and assigned as well as other opportunities that relate to the fundraising and strategic efforts of the unit.

Required Qualifications

  • You have a minimum 3-5 years' experience foundation-related fundraising
  • High School or Technical/Vocational Degree
  • Basic knowledge of fundraising databases
  • Experience with proposal/concept development
  • Proven project management skills and experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate independently and as a team member
  • Strong PC skills, including Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred
