Group Home Manager

Manage day-to-day operations, staff supervision & resident care of a group living residence for adults with intellectual & developmental disabilities.

Basic Responsibilities:

1.   Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client, employee, and agency information.

2.   Emergency Pager:

a. Stay within range 24 hours per day while on the pager.  (Schedule determined by the management for each team.  Generally each manager is on the pager for 1 of 3 weeks.)

b. Respond within 10 minutes of any page.

c. Provide assistance as needed.  This includes but is not limited to: responding the the home immediately in a crisis, finding staffing coverage, and working scheduled shifts as needed in the assigned home or the team home.

3.  Household Management: 

a. Oversee the day-to-day operation of the residential facility assigned.

b. Maintain and control all supplies with a systematic method of purchasing, accountability and budget control.

c. Oversee records for confidentiality and retrieval:  personnel, finance, health, incident reports, etc.

d. Coordinate the physical management of the house:  cleaning, laundry, shopping, maintenance, etc.

e. Monitor all house rules related to safety, sanitation, behavior, medication, visitation, etc.

f. Assure that adequate staff is present at all times, including supervision, scheduling and substitutions when necessary.

g. Adhere to all state and federal regulations and guidelines.

4. Ensure compliance with policy and procedure regarding safety:

a. Communicate emergency preparedness and precautions to all staff.

b. Report injuries and accidents following the appropriate procedures. 

c. Schedule, assign and conduct emergency drills in compliance with policy.

5.  Staff Hiring and Training:

a. Conduct interviews with prospective staff following RCDS policy and in compliance with the law.

b. Coordinate and directly participate in the training of all staff assigned.

c. Assure completion of training checklists.

d. Schedule and coordinate two staff meetings per month.

e. Identify training needs of staff assigned and request training or conduct training.

6.  Staff Supervision:

a. Supervise the activity of residents and direct contact staff on a daily basis.

b. Assign and assist staff in carrying out each resident's IPP, coordinated with the QIDP.

c. Complete thorough and timely evaluations of job performance of staff assigned.

d. Adhere to and enforce RCDS policy and procedure.

e. Discipline staff as necessary (does not include termination).

f. Monitor and compile staff time sheets for accuracy and completion.

7.  Resident Care: 

a. Work directly with residents alongside staff as needed. (5 hours or more per week on average)  Model appropriate behavior and attitude toward residents.  Must be able to complete all aspects of the Group Home Direct Support Professional position.

b. Attend IDT meetings and school meetings

c. Ensure that appropriate medical care is provided and resident appointments are kept.

d. Maintain knowledge of and conform to residents' IPPs and Behavior Plans.

e. Emphasize philosophies of active treatment to staff.

f. Maintain contact with interested family members and respond to their concerns.

Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:

Ability to assist clients in activities including kneeling, crouching, reaching & bending; lift & transfer, with assistance, individuals who weigh up to 250 lbs.; push large adults in wheelchairs; lift 70 lbs. occasionally & 40 lbs. routinely 

Qualifications:

1. RN, LPN, or 4-year degree preferred.

2. One to two years experience with individuals who have developmental disabilities.

3. Supervisory experience preferred.

4. Excellent leadership & communication skills required.

5. Excellent organizational skills required.

6. Must be able to work as part of a team.

7. Must pass MANDT behavior training & pass recertification in MANDT annually.

8. Must hold current CPR/1st aid card or pass CPR/1st aid training and recertify as required.

9. Must pass any necessary medical treatment training as to provide proper client care.

10. Must have reliable transportation.  Must maintain a valid driver’s license and valid car insurance with ability to transport clients in own vehicle as necessary.  Must be able to provide copy of current insurance as requested.  

Additional Notes: Reports to Group Home Coordinator. Directs work of Group Home Direct Support Professionals, Behavior Technicians, Specialized DSPs. Works closely with Physician, Nursing Staff, QIDPs, Behavior Consultant, Staffing Resources Coordinator, Vice President Residential Services, Director of Residential Services, Outside Professionals.
