United Way of Elkhart County is poised for growth as it enters its 96th year of operations. 

The Director of Finance and Administration is charged with the transparent management of the organization’s internal financial processes in partnership with an outside accounting entity as well as other various administrative duties in support of UWEC’s donors, Board, President/CEO and staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Process donations and payments in various forms including bank deposits
  • Manage payables (including proper GL assignment), receivables and invoicing
  • Work with outside processor to prepare and provide timely financial information and responses to inquiries
  • Assemble information for external auditors for the annual audit
  • Maintain grant tracking spreadsheet
  • Process, track and forward pledge forms during annual campaign
  • Maintain donor data and reports in donor-centered database (Andar)
  • Manage miscellaneous quarterly and annual functions such as designation notification and payout processing, various mass communications with donors, raffle licensure and vendor contracts
  • Provide HR support to President/CEO including new employee orientation, overseeing offsite payroll processing and maintaining insurance, payroll and personnel records
  • Provide communication for and setup of bi-monthly Board meetings
  • Provide backup office operations support when needed including answering phones and greeting visitors as well as some limited equipment and IT issue resolution
  • Provide miscellaneous special event, campaign and community support
  • Effectively communicate and develop relationships with Board members, donors, volunteers and vendors
  • Represent United Way with courtesy, tact and discretion 
  • Safeguard confidential information used in the performance of duties
  • Support the President, Board and staff in fulfilling UWEC’s mission
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • A self-starter who is motivated and able to perform with minimal supervision
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple types of financial transactions, processes and projects
  • Strong computer skills, particularly spreadsheets, databases and word processing
  • Responsible stewardship of UWEC assets and a commitment to lean and efficient work processes
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Quality relationship-building skills with the ability to listen well and relate to others
  • Possess a pleasant attitude with the ability to be confidential when needed
  • Ability to develop, implement and manage work and project plans and meet deadlines/goals
  • Ability to think strategically and anticipate situational needs and requirements
  • Flexibility, adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning
  • Commitment to excellence and to the mission of United Way
  • Valid driver’s license and use of own vehicle (with valid insurance coverage) for UWEC business
