Basic Responsibilities:Mentors participants with intellectual and physical disabilities with co-occurring behavioral health needs and communication challenges, by providing 1:1 community and job site-based support, supervision and instruction to ensure successful transition into the community and workforce.

  • Under the direction of a licensed Behavioral Therapist, implements behavior intervention techniques, provides feedback, and documents success. Effectively relays issues and concerns to the Program Manager  
  • Acts as 1:1 mentor to individuals moving from a locked setting into community employment. This includes on the job support, as well as building positive community routines  
  • Participates on interdisciplinary teams to create and implement individual goals, objectives, and schedules in support of a safe and meaningful life  
  • Diffuses crisis situations and provides crisis intervention, as necessary, in compliance with Easterseals policies and the standards of CPI and ProAct  
  • Identifies and implements alternative communication options and accommodations as needed  
  • Completes all required documentation and reports 
  • Utilizes public transportation or incumbent’s own reliable vehicle to transport participants as directed

Qualifications:

  • Typically requires H.S. diploma or national equivalent and 3 to 5 years relatable work experience, or equivalent combination of training, education and experience to perform the job successfully
  • Demonstrated proficiency in de-escalation, diffusion, and redirection
  • CPI, ProAct, and ACRE certifications are required (will provide training if needed)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain valid CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively, through oral and written skills, with all levels of staff and the general public
  • Ability to interpret and ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Ability to pass a post-offer physical examination and a TB test
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation per Easterseals Southern California and/or program requirements
  • Ability to travel locally; maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards; maintain auto insurance and vehicle registration
