The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a DevelopmentSpecialist, GRFW-Temporary in our Midwest Affiliate located in Mankato, MN .

The Development Specialist will be supporting our Senior Youth Market Director and the Go Red for Women Luncheon event in Mankato. Primarily responsible for the planning and implementation of a Go Red for Women Luncheon. This includes securing local sponsorship income and auction items, soliciting individual donations, recruiting and managing volunteers, and handling the event logistics. The Development Specialist may also work with school staff, students, and other applicable volunteers to handle the implementation and promotion of the events to achieve revenue generation and program goals in our schools.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage existing and new sponsorships and relationships to achieve campaign goal for the Go Red for Women Luncheon.
  • Maintains regular communication with and provides customer service to school staff, students, and other applicable volunteers. Includes checking in with the during the fundraising event cycle to ensure they are on track to meet or exceed the fundraising goal and brainstorm to overcome obstacles.
  • Solicits individual donations through the event special appeal and relationships with corporate executives and top-level donors.
  • Manages event logistics including, but not limited to, event promotions, entertainment, live and silent auctions.
  • Recruit and maintain individual membership for Circle of Red and Men Go Red for Women (as market appropriate), our personal giving societies. Includes planning and executing regular engagement events for members.
  • Assist in developing relationship-building strategies to include making personal visits on a monthly basis.
  • Establish and maintain superior customer service relations with sponsors, volunteers and donors by providing professional and friendly assistance within best practice guidelines, with proactive resolution of issues or needs.
  • Maintain and process reports and forwards them to appropriate staff in a timely manner. This includes KPI reports per event.
  • Utilize existing national and affiliate materials, products and recruitment tools.
  • Weekly knowledge of ongoing operations in assigned activities.
  • Ensure that divisions and activities function within the parameters of American Heart Association and Midwest Affiliate policy.
  • Willingness to accept other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Sr. Youth Market Director.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s or some college plus experience. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years experience equates to 1 full-time year of higher education.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in fundraising, outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
  • Knowledge of community organization, sales, fundraising, and marketing principles, practices, techniques, and trends.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, and training. Skill in written communications to include clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations and similar narrative pieces.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and analyze number goals, as well as fundraising reports. Skill in use of spreadsheet/database analysis.
  • Ability to do daily travel up to 75%.
  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2010 or higher used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs is preferred. These skills are subject to testing.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds with the expectation that items in excess of 20 pounds would be broken down into smaller components or additional assistance is required before lifting and/or moving.
