As a Family Services Coordinator, you will collaborate with the Director of Family Services in the administration and further development of the Family Services Team. The Family Services Team prepares low-income families and individuals to succeed as partners in the Habitat Homeownership Program and reach their dream of homeownership.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as Family Services Contact for 20-40 Partner Families working through Homeownership Program including one-on-one appointments, property offer appointment(s), housing options selections appointment, pre-closing workshop, dedication, closing, post purchase home visit and other events and meetings as needed. Create and maintain timely and accurate files for Partner Families throughout the process.
  • Ensure that Partner Families working through homeownership program have a thorough understanding of concepts and tools to be successful homeowners and that they are meeting necessary program objectives and established financial goals.
  • Work with Family Services Team to plan for and execute Blueprint to Homeownership Education Series including assisting with materials and room preparation, class facilitation, and teaching.
  • Serve as Family Services Contact for existing Habitat Homeowners to provide post purchase support as needed.
  • Provide assistance with outreach activities, family selection events, and family selection process as needed including assistance with processing program applications.
  • Work with Family Services Team to plan for and execute post purchase education workshops including assisting with materials and room preparation, class facilitation, and teaching.
  • Plan for and execute annual Youth Financial Education Classes with support from Family Services Team.
  • Work collaboratively with other Habitat departments to provide necessary information regarding caseload of Partner Families including media release, grant information form, family biography and family picture, and other appropriate anecdotes and grant reporting information as needed.
  • Work within organization to advocate for Partner Families currently in Habitat Homeownership Program and current Habitat Homeowners, working to address any questions or concerns that may arise during their participation or homeownership. This role requires correspondence with many Habitat teams at times at regularly occurring meetings and others at periodic meetings as per needed.
  • Work with Family Services Team to orientate newly accepted Partner Families at New Partner Family Celebrations, Sweat Equity Presentations, and Youth Orientations.
  • Participate in networking group with other service providers to learn community resources and promote program referrals.
  • Attend necessary trainings and workshops to improve knowledge base and technique including NeighborWorks Trainings, Habitat for Humanity Conferences, and other conferences when available and appropriate. Additionally, become licensed through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System.
Educational Background: 
College degree and/or 5 years of relevant professional experience in social work/human services, adult education, personal finance, or mortgage origination/underwriting experience preferred.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Highly organized and detailed oriented skills.
  • Able to consistently perform accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule that will include some evenings and most Saturdays.
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently without supervision, while functioning effectively in a team environment with a professionally diverse staff.
  • Convey clear, concise information to diverse audience, using verbal or other appropriate communication techniques.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Treat others in a nondiscriminatory, lawful, and ethical manner, respecting the differences among people, and the value they bring to GDMHFH.
  • Follow safe practices in all work activities to avoid injuries and accidents.
