Program Coordinator, Bridging the Gap

Mile High United Way's Bridging the Gap (BTG) program provides supportive services to youth age 18 through 24 as they transition out of the child welfare system. This position provides supportive services in the areas of housing, youth engagement, asset building, community connections and employment to youth participating in Bridging the Gap (BTG), which seeks to ensure that youth aging out of the child welfare system (foster care and department of youth corrections) make successful transitions to adulthood through increased opportunities.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coordinate with BTG staff on the planning, marketing/recruitment and implementation of monthly BTG events, workshops, and activities by creating and sending out flyers and ensuring space availability.
  • Responsible for BTG scholarships and managing the Scholarship Committee. This will include ensuring an accurate record of financial assistance provided to participants.
  • Collect and track program data, share data with Mile High United Way's Evaluation and Grant writing teams as appropriate, and provide support in collecting annual surveys.
  • Coordinate and work with the team to facilitate focus groups and gain participant input for programming
  • Collaborate with the BTG team to identify and address barriers to employment and education for participants. Use this information to develop resources and create relationships with community partners to better support participants with education and employment.
  • Organize and manage BTG walk in hours monthly. Complete and enter Vulnerability Index Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool (VI-SPDAT) into the coordinated entry system. Provide low level case management to those that complete this survey.
  • Provide oversight and management for supervised activity room during weekly parents group.
  • Maintain and secure confidential client information.
  • Serve as a back-up for the Housing Coordinator as needed, including but not limited to, completing necessary Division of Housing and HUD paperwork, as well as Housing Quality Standards inspections for Family Unification Program Housing Choice Vouchers (FUP HCV) for former foster youth, contacting landlords and assisting with the presentation of the new participant orientation.
  • Support the BTG Housing Coordinator with the presentation of the Voucher Approval/Tennant Approval meeting as well as provide support with other housing activities.
  • Participate in overall program development and implementation with BTG staff, performing other relevant duties as required.
  • Maintain social media updates for the BTG program.
  • Attend community meetings, trainings and open houses related to community resources and supportive services for current and former foster youth.
  • Represent BTG and Mile High United Way at meetings and presentations as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree preferred, Associates degree required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Preferred experience in human services; public services, housing or related field.
  • Strong understanding of youth development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Practical experience in relating effectively to people of all backgrounds, professions, ethnic and racial groups, and national origins.

Special Skills & Knowledge

  • General case management principles and practices as they apply to low-income housing assistance programs; and socioeconomic challenges and needs of low-income families and individuals
  • Knowledge of the Denver Metro Area and an understanding of available community resources
  • Working as part of a team; collaborating with colleagues.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Negotiating, exchanging ideas, information and opinions with others to jointly formulate innovative policies, practice, programs or solutions.
  • Highly developed organizational and time management skills.
  • Creative and flexible nature.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other related software
  • Salesforce experience a plus
