The Generalist, Human Resources is responsible for the day-to-day employee relations matters of the department. Oversight will include recruitment and staff logistics, training and development, and employee performance management. Additionally, the Generalist will support Human Resources initiatives, organizational strategy, policies and procedures, and overall organizational outcomes.

Areas of Responsibility: 

RECRUITMENT AND STAFFING LOGISTICS

  • Develop and execute recruitment strategy and staffing logistics
  • Responsible for full cycle recruiting activities including advertising, staff selection, phone screenings and reference checks, including program related requirements.
  • Initiates new hire paperwork, and completes appropriate background information.
  • Consult with hiring managers to discuss candidate status and develop sourcing strategies for hard-to-fill roles.
  • Manage and develops vendor and community relationships, participates in recruitment outreach activities to strengthen the candidate pipeline.
  • Assist with the development of recruiting promotional material, communication pieces, and events calendar.
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with the management team to guide them through the recruitment process.
  • Ensures all hiring processes are in compliance with federal/state/local laws.
  • Responsible for the on/off boarding processes for new hires, including conducting exit interviews.
  • Maintains applicant tracking software, including posting of job vacancies.
  • Design job descriptions for new roles with input from hiring managers.

 TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Collaborates with all departments of the organization to identify training needs, and develop learning solutions designed to meet business objectives and foster employee professional development.
  • Leads training sessions and or works with outside trainers (MHUW staff, contractors, vendors, etc.).
  • Responsible for developing training materials, administering program, evaluating training effectiveness, and tracking participants.
  • Maintains the training calendar and distributes all invites.
  • Tracks staff training and development requests, including tuition assistance. Assist the Vice President of Human Resources in reconciling training and development charges.
  • Responsible for coordinating the All Staff agenda and monthly meetings.

 PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS

  • In conjunction with the Vice President of Human Resources, responsible for the annual performance management process, including training supervisors on the performance management cycle
  • In conjunction with the Coordinator, responsible for training supervisors and employees on using all performance management software.

Other Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist Vice President of Human Resources with strategic implementation of HR programs to help align the department with the goals of the company, including total rewards, talent management, employee relations, and compensation.
  • Assist with employee relations, coaching and performance management.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures and related documents as needed, and suggest and implement recommendations for system/process improvements to ensure adequate internal controls and efficient work processes.
  • Support the department's coordination of annual benefit-related audits/events, i.e. 401(k) audit, 5500 preparation, and benefit renewals.
  • Maintains current working knowledge of federal laws (HIPAA, FMLA, COBRA, ADA) and Section 125 guidelines. Research and report on Human Resource best practices.
  • Complete external surveys relating to compensation, benefits and other human resources practices.
  • Develop and maintain positive customer relations by ensuring that all verbal, telephone and written inquiries and requests are handled appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • In conjunction with department, maintain and monitor the HR Calendar.
  • Assist with the day-to-day efficiency operation of the HR department.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or related discipline.
Skills/Experience: 
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years of direct human resource experience at the Generalist level.
  • Experience facilitating training in large group presentations.
  • Experience leading projects to completion.
  • Competent in recruitment and selection, as well as policy and procedure interpretation.
  • Must have working knowledge of state and federal laws along with practical application

SPECIAL SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of HR laws, policy, and resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to present instruction one-on-one and in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to properly balance employee advocacy and business requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work directly with all levels of staff to identify sound HR solutions that also meet business requirements.  
  • Well-organized, with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Human Resource Information System (HRIS) experience, including report management and data integrity: ApplicantPro, Paycom, and Spiceworks experience a plus.
