The Director, Youth Initiatives promotes the mission and vision of Mile High United Way's youth initiatives and flagship program, Bridging the Gap (BTG). This position will have program oversight of BTG, and will be responsible for building and sustaining partnerships with community organizations and resources that maximize the ability of Mile High United Way to achieve its BTG strategic and implementation goals.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide program oversight and direction to Mile High United Way's youth initiatives and the Bridging the Gap program manager and staff.
  • Lead youth policy efforts and determine the organization's position for opposition, support, or monitor for local, state, and federal legislation that impacts youth and those participating in foster care and out-of-home placement in collaboration with the Senior Director, Policy and Impact Investing and MHUW's lobbyist.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Manager, Foundations and Grants, identify and pursue grant funding, and when awarded, implement grant-funded activities to enhance initiatives for youth. Investigate funding opportunities and assist with preparing proposals to funding organizations and local partners. Work in coordination with the Resource Development team to determine fundraising opportunities.
  • Develop and manage collaborative relationships and meetings with youth-serving partners that advance the goals and objectives of BTG.
  • Oversee the data governance efforts post-ETO and with Salesforce. Work with the Evaluation team to develop relevant and meaningful performance measures and track output and outcome data to measure youth success and BTG program impact.
  • Continually develop and improve strategies for serving youth who are at high risk for homelessness or are experiencing economic hardship and those who were formerly in the child welfare system, and their children, when applicable.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications team on BTG collateral, reporting, impact stories, etc. distributed in the community. Provide support and content area expertise on all public relations efforts regarding BTG programming and youth participants served.
  • Represent Mile High United Way on community-wide youth development committees and functions related to youth, youth-related efforts, and BTG.
  • Oversee and facilitate MHUW collaboration efforts with community-based youth development partners, funders, policy makers, service providers, nonprofit organizations, local and state government/education agencies, the corporate sector and other key community stakeholders in the development and implementation of the BTG program.
  • Maintains security and confidentiality of all division documents and files
  • Maintains a positive image of Mile High United Way
  • Maintain professional relationships with MHUW staff, county personnel, youth, families, and service providers
  • Is professionally supportive of all Mile High United Way policies, procedures, functions, departments, divisions, managers and employees
  • Provides support to other department and corporate priorities, as needed, e.g. strategic plan, annual budget, special initiatives, etc.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with other departments
Educational Background: 
Masters degree in social work, psychology, education or a related field is preferred. Bachelors degree with comparable experience and skills is required
Skills/Experience: 
  • 4-6 years of experience in the nonprofit or government sector working with youth-serving organizations
  • 4-6 years of supervisory experience
  • Current knowledge and use of clinical practices
  • Crisis Intervention principles and practices
  • High Fidelity Wraparound
  • Understanding of the impact of childhood trauma on development
  • Experience working with youth-serving systems (i.e. Child Welfare, Mental Health, School Districts)
  • Case management principles, procedures, and practices
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts
  • Good oral communication and writing skills, including presentations, public speaking, written reports, and other documents
  • Good organizational skills and an ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • General knowledge of event planning

Computer Skills

  • Demonstrated experience working with Microsoft Office. Salesforce experience a plus.
