United for Families is Mile High United Way's signature early childhood initiative. This new role will build and maintain relationships between Mile High United Way and its early childhood program partners within specific under-resourced communities. This position will be responsible for facilitating authentic community engagement efforts, building parent/caregiver awareness of resources and providing care navigation services, and working collaboratively with Mile High United Way's internal programs to support children and families during the transition to the K-12 system. While this role will be reporting directly to the Senior Manager, United Neighborhoods to gain expertise in community engagement, this position will also work in close collaboration with the United for Families team.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with early childhood program partners and participating families.
  • Work collaboratively with United for Families and United Neighborhoods to establish an Early Childhood Ambassadors program, an effort intended to keep interested parents and caregivers informed of early childhood initiatives, provide opportunities for input on various programming aspects, encourage recruitment and participation in programs, and provide support to effectively advocate on behalf of young children.
  • Identify opportunities for greater collaboration between key nonprofit and government partners to more effectively serve families with young children.
  • Support Mile High United Way's Evaluation and Learning Team in data collection, synthesis, and communication/translation of results back to program partners and families, as appropriate.
  • Assess needs of families engaged in early childhood programming and provide warm hand-off connections to community resources.
  • Participate in specialized training specifically to support the unique child care needs of parents of young children who are undergoing substance use treatment per House Bill 19-1193; share successes and lessons learned with key stakeholders.  
  • Make recommendations to increase ease of transitions for children and families entering the K-12 system in collaboration with the Coordinator of School Partnerships.
  • Utilize and recommend improvements to the 2-1-1 portal for tracking referrals issued through this imbedded community navigation approach and connections with community members.
  • Support the dissemination of tools and resources that promote school readiness for children birth to age 5, such as literacy kits and subscriptions to Bright By Text.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support the facilitation of internal and external meetings and events.
  • Provide administrative support to the United for Families team as needed.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree preferred, High School Diploma or GED required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 1-2 years of experience in community or professional grassroots efforts or fieldwork preferred.
  • Experience in group settings
