United Way of Metropolitan Dallas is seeking a dynamic professional to implement early childhood development programming in the Region 10 community in partnership with the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This position is responsible for oversight of the TEA RECESS project implementation for the course of the three- year grant (ending December 2021) in partnership with multiple entities. This position will provide oversight and ongoing support to the project to ensure United Way makes measurable progress toward achieving the project goals.    

Areas of Responsibility: 

Provide oversight to the RECESS Project by:

  • Assuring that United Way and all vendors and subcontractors are meeting the goals and requirements as set forth in the TEA RECESS proposal
  • Working with early learning centers to: conduct student assessments and train staff on assessment processes Working with Southern Methodist University to develop and implement a comprehensive assessment, evaluation strategy and strategic plan for the project
  • Developing a training calendar and coordinating quarterly regional workshops (including logistics, securing expert trainers, etc.)
  • Overseeing the RECESS Professional Development Fund, including raising awareness, managing the application process, and working with UWMD’s Finance department to track fund availability
  • Engaging in necessary training required to deliver effective coaching to the participating centers
  • Working with United Way Strong Start team members to leverage knowledge about best practices
  • Overseeing the reporting and monitoring of all objectives to ensure timely submission
  • Recruit and engage potential centers and ELAs including those involved in the UWMD First Five initiative in order to support the goals of that initiative as well
  • Work closely with the Education and Health Impact area teams in the Community Impact department
  • Strengthen existing relationships and forge new working partnerships with school districts, community leaders, service providers, corporations, funders, public sector, educational institutions, coalitions, and other stakeholders to promote early childhood development
  • Represent United Way as an issue expert in the community and serve as a member on applicable external coalitions and collaborative projects
  • Ensure that United Way is at the forefront of the latest trends, funding and policies in the area of early childhood education
  • Develop and sustain relationships within the Early Childhood community of Region 10, southern Dallas and other outlying areas
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, Sociology Urban Planning/Administration, Public Administration, Non-Profit Management, or related field required. A Master’s Degree or commensurate experience preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of four years of non-profit experience, including supervisory/coaching experience. 
  • Supervisory experience in applicable early childhood settings including public and private early learning centers.
  • Experience implementing student assessments and evidence-based classroom curriculum preferred.
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, able to multi-task
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to mobilize resources
  • Strong Communication and Relationship Management Skills
  • Creative Thinker; Able to adapt
  • Proficiency MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Internet and knowledge of Social Media

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Solid understanding of child development and systems for children and families
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking
  • Experience in managing complex grant-funded projects and reporting
  • Experience with evidence-based early childhood programming, including implementation within early learning centers
  • Strong coaching ability for opportunities to work one on one and in a training capacity for teachers
  • Knowledge of the Region 10 area as it pertains to strengths, gaps and needs for children 0-5
  • Ability to lead projects and people towards measurable goals and to course correct when needed
