Sr Program Evaluation Analyst

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Program Evaluation Analyst in our National Center office located in Dallas, Texas .

In this role, you will be responsible for leading implementation and outcomes evaluation activities performed by the AHA’s Center for Health Metrics and Evaluation. Additional responsibilities include conducting both large and small-scale evaluation studies to assess impact, performance, and efficiency of AHA programs and initiatives aimed at the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and promotion of ideal cardiovascular health.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Design and implement both short-turn-around and long-term evaluation plans for programs across the portfolio of AHA initiatives.
  • Manage evaluation projects, including collaborative coordination of project activities across multiple business units and external organizations.
  • Develop and implement data collection plans (using quantitative and qualitative methods) that secure buy-in from all key stakeholders (including the program implementer) and which optimize information-flow through the program life-cycle (planning, implementation, and evaluation).
  • Write sections of evaluation proposals for new projects and produce written reports and presentations detailing evaluation background, critical evaluation questions, evaluation methods, findings, and recommendations.
  • Select and refine standard study measures, develop and implement surveys (paper and online), and oversee quality control of data collection, including managing and preparing relational databases and data-sets to facilitate data analysis; conduct appropriate statistical analyses on quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Develops fact-sheets and brief reports; substantiates facts for AHA activities.
  • Lead development of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and presentations based on evaluation studies conducted, including coordinating involvement with AHA volunteers; provide input for presentations at major conferences and meetings.
Educational Background: 
Master's Degree in Public Health or related area.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five (5) years of experience:
  • Designing and implementing both short-turn-around and long-term evaluation plans for health-related programs
  • Creating data collection instruments for both quantitative (surveys/questionnaires) and qualitative (interview/focus group guides) approaches
  • Project management and coordination experience
  • Advanced knowledge of research design and methodology.
  • Ability to understand scientific communication (journals, briefings, reports, statistics, etc.) and to synthesize complex scientific/evaluation findings into reports or communications for both lay, business, and scientific audiences.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of public, community and population health and business models.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders, including representatives of target populations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products for project management purposes.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and consistently perform well during times of increased workload.
  • Must be able to travel overnight approx. 5% of the time.

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • Three (3) years of experience designing and implementing for health-related programs focused on cardiovascular diseases/cardiovascular disease risk factors and/or diabetes.
  • Three (3) years of experience developing evaluation plans for community-based programs focused on reducing health disparities.
  • Three (3) years of experience developing evaluation plans for programs implemented in healthcare settings.
  • Ability to creatively consider alternative solutions to tasks.
  • Intellectual curiosity.
  • Proficient in software used for data management and statistical analyses (e.g. R, SAS, STATA).
