Guideline Advisor, Performance Measures (AHA/ACC)

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Guideline Advisor, Performance Measures in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX.

The Guideline Advisor Performance Measures will be considered a joint employee of the American Heart Association (AHA) and American College of Cardiology (ACC).

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide and manage the technical and project management activities of the ACC/AHA Task Force on Performance Measures (TFPM), including scheduling, managing volunteer participation and facilitating meetings to ensure implementation of project management methodologies, policies and procedures in TFPM work. Facilitate onsite meeting logistics, agenda and outcomes at AHA, ACC Sessions and other forums as assigned.
  • Develop and oversee assigned quality and performance measures projects using processes of the ACC/AHA Task Force on Clinical Performance Measures throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain current knowledge of health policy, clinical practice guidelines, and other regulatory agency requirements pertaining to quality and performance measures. Monitor and build upon relationships, as appropriate, with NQF, CMS, sub-specialty organizations and others related to performance measurement.
  • Prepare and finalize reports, meeting agendas and scripts, project updates and presentations for physician members, executive committees and other key stakeholders. Facilitate and present as needed.
  • Translate performance measures using external methodologies as appropriate for aggregating and reporting purposes including testing of specifications, which may lead to adoption and endorsement among external organizations such as NQF, CMS, etc. Review and understand the activities of the Task Forces for Practice Guidelines and Data Standards, as well as other groups within AHA and ACC whose work might involve performance measures utilization.
  • Coordinate schedules and timelines change control procedures and project maintenance procedures in adherence with AHA/ACC policies regarding relationships with industry, MOUs, board review, and journal publication style, including proof reading and editing of page proofs.
  • Perform other research and project management tasks, as assigned in support of the Director of AHA/ACC Guideline Strategy and Operations.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Health Informatics, Behavioral or Social Sciences, related area or equivalent work experience.
  • Five (5) years of clinical, nonprofit, governmental or research experience in the medical measures and performance management field.
  • Ability to understand, integrate and summarize scientific literature.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and quality and performance measure reference terminologies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff, and the public as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time constraints.
  • Superior writing and communication skills.

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • Three (3) years of experience working in public health or medical informatics.
  • Three (3) years of experience in volunteer management.
  • Knowledge of voluntary health organizations or nonprofit organizations.
  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for the use of technology and information systems.
