The Director of Data Analytics and Technology supports and implements the strategic vision of UWM in relation to the use of information systems and business processes. The role will be a member of the senior management team of the organization.  The Director will be responsible, in conjunction with other senior management, to set the direction for the use of data and technology across the organization and implement appropriate strategies in support of this direction.  This is achieved by providing internal clients across the organization with timely, relevant information and analyses used to identify new revenue opportunities and related demographic trends, and increase the efficiency of our processes. This role also leads IT infrastructure, software and human resources to meet these objectives.  Additionally, this role will be responsible for the information technology function and infrastructure across the organization.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Champion and drive a data-centric culture and foster innovation across the organization through effective use of data.
  • Works closely with senior management team on setting and implementing the digital donor engagement strategy for the organization.  Develops relationships with peers at key local UWs around the country as well as with the digital strategy team at UWW.
  • Leads the IT function for the organization including third party support, data security and network/server security.
  • Recruits and leads inter-departmental team to develop new process for improving efficiencies and effectiveness of use of donor and volunteer data in the organization. Develops methods and controls to ensure consistent application and use of data.
  • Conducts research on data and digital technology use for donor engagement, donor development and retention, impact effectiveness/program outcomes, etc.  Stays abreast of digital technology and business intelligence trends in the nonprofit industry.
  • Creates models to evaluate how outcomes have been improved by better use of data.
  • Compares our performance to peer institutions and draws information for various sectors to assure continuous improvement.
  • Assesses, administers and troubleshoots RDBM systems including but not limited to SQL Server.
  • Becomes proficient in the administration of current UWM on-line giving and CRM application(s) and stays current on industry developments.
  • Evaluates and troubleshoots situations to provide recommendations for improvement of applications related to resource development, donor services and volunteer engagement.
  • Develops reports and analyses from traditional reporting or BI tools.
  • Develops and provides documentation for custom in-house software where appropriate.
  • Other duties as required.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science or related work experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working with data and analytics including reporting software such as SSRS, Crystal or similar.
  • Minimum three years’ experience with complex querying of relational databases.
  • Microsoft certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) with SQL Server and or MS Dynamics CRM.
  • Minimum five to seven years’ experience with MS office suite especially Access and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science or related work experience.
  • Microsoft certified Systems Expert (MCSE) with SQL Server and or MS Dynamics CRM.
  • Three to five years’ experience in or familiarity with nonprofit organizations, fundraising applications and standard M.
  • Experience in a similar position with a non-profit or United Way.
