United Way of the Midlands serves as the lead administrative agency for the local homeless continuum of care, operates the continuum’s electronic client management database, and serves as regional coordinator for homeless services for the City of Columbia.
The Data Analyst is responsible for reporting functions of the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) for the 13-counties of the local homeless continuum of care. HMIS is an internet-based database to track housing and service usage of homeless and at-risk populations. The position will also engage in data analysis and development of research reports. While an entry to mid-level position growth in the position is possible. Some daytime travel will be required to provide on-site assistance.
- Manage the HMIS database reporting functions.
- Develop custom reporting, analysis of agency and client data, submission of federal reports including the Longitudinal Systems Analysis (LSA) to Congress, Point in Time Count data extracts, and development of system performance measures.
- Conduct and support trainings of end-users on how to produce reports and enter information into the front-end of the system.
- Manage data analysis.
- Review program data regularly for errors, potential problems, and anomalies.
- Interact with software vendor, SC Office of Revenue and Fiscal Affairs, and agency users.
- Research policies and procedures relating to HMIS reporting and analysis of best practices in other communities.
- Provide staff support to one or more volunteer committees throughout the 13-counties of the local homeless continuum of care.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication (oral and written) skills.
- Background working with databases and large data sets.
- Advanced skills in Excel and MS Office family of products and ability to quickly learn databases and build queries.
- Candidates must consistently demonstrate the ability to work independently as a member of an impact team.
- Desire to gain knowledge of HUD regulations and data guidelines.
- Ability to prioritize projects and manage time effectively.
- Ability to develop positive interpersonal and working relationships with various publics, including, volunteers networks, UWM staff, human services organizations, schools, faith-based organizations, funders and supporters.
- Database analysis skills including demonstrated ability to write reports and build queries.
Preferred
- Master’s degree and experience in related field.
- Research and data analysis experience.
- Experience with application development.
