The Manager, Foundation Relations position is charged with the planning, directing, and implementing of Focus on the Family’s strategy to build and strengthen relationships with institutional foundations. On an annual basis, the Foundation Relations Manager will be responsible for raising or exceeding the target income from institutional donors, as well as developing a new prospect pool of donors through strategic cultivation and solicitation strategies. Collaborating with the Manager, Communications and Strategy and program owners across the ministry, the Foundation Relations Manager is responsible for the conceptualization and creation of grant proposals. This position has direct oversight and management of the foundation support staff responsible for research and required internal/external stewardship reporting.

Areas of Responsibility: 

ultivates and deepens existing foundation relationships through personal visits, phone calls, and correspondence with foundation boards, designated trustees, and directors. Serves as their liaison and advocate at Focus

Identifies priorities and interest areas of foundations and matches them with Focus programs consistent with these priorities and interest areas

Identifies and seeks to cultivate potential new institutional relationships through ongoing research, networking, visits, phone calls, and correspondence, including letters of inquiry and grant proposal requests

Oversees and participates in the development of the grant proposal/letter of inquiry writing process per guidelines of each institutional donor

Manages the development of quarterly, semi-annual, and annual updates required by institutional donors that have funded grants to Focus on the Family

Contacts foundations on a regular basis regarding new projects and timelines for submitting grant proposals as well as necessary follow-up on pending proposals

Maintains up-to-date records on each foundation, including grant submission due dates, types of programs the foundation funds, board/trustee member names and biographical information, and other necessary data

Develops and maintains positive working relationships with Focus project owners, managers, directors, vice presidents, and executive cabinet to understand specific funding needs and to secure necessary information

Recruits for and participates in "insider" events for donors

Generates and maintains up-to-date trip summaries, expense reports and constituent profile updates

Performs monthly management reporting on all institutional donor impact and activity versus plan Is accountable to all scorecard measurements and modifies/adapts strategy as necessary to ensure goals are attained

Maintains daily contact with support personnel, providing leadership and instruction

Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in related field
5-7 years of experience in foundations/corporate fundraising
5-7 years of experience in fundraising and donor development, with emphasis on relationship building
Skills/Experience: 

Exemplifies Ephesians 5:1-2, “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children and walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us...”

Pursues the Great Commission given by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”


Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Focus; adheres to the Standard of Moral Conduct and Statement of Faith; upholds Focus on the Family's ministry in prayer

Prays personally for Focus on the Family’s staff and constituents and may occasionally lead in a public prayer

Compensation commesurate with experience
