Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a dedicated professional to serve as a Regional Veterans Engagement Specialist. The Regional Veteran Engagement Specialist will be responsible for developing the capacity of Florida-based affiliates to serve the needs of the state's veteran community. Working in coordination with the Florida State Support Organization (FL-SSO), the Specialist will be responsible for identifying and developing partnerships with veteran organizations, state and local government entities, and other non-profits to strengthen relationships that will enable Habitat to better serve veterans. The Specialist will be responsible for developing training tools that serve Habitat’s affiliated organizations in their outreach to and service with the veteran community. Reporting to the Director - Veterans Build, this position will be based at the Florida SSO office in Clearwater, Florida and will require up to 30% within the state of Florida.
- Map resources and analyze current affordable housing context for veterans
- Determine current baseline of veteran engagement at the Habitat affiliate level and develop metrics to demonstrate growth
- Develop close working relationship with Habitat affiliates, understanding the context in which each is working, the program goals and strategies that can be leveraged to better serve veterans and their families
- Identify/develop/facilitate access to resources that strengthen Habitat’s work in the veteran community
- Identify/promote and/or facilitate regular meetings with veterans organizations and support groups
- Create efficient system with Habitat affiliates to track and measure progress
- Develop relationships with other social agencies that can expand/support Habitat’s work with veterans
- Represent Habitat in the veteran community in partnership with other organizations that are promoting home ownership
- 4 years Military experience OR experience working in veteran organizations
- Demonstrated experience in working with state and federal funding opportunities
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Working knowledge of Microsoft software, internet and basic office equipment
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task
PREFERRED:
- Ability to analyze data in service of strategic planning
- 3-5 years of experience in a program development and/or coordination position
- Critical analytical skills, especially in situations where the issues are not always clearly defined
