he Senior Vice President, Engagement & Marketing, will lead the organization’s marketing, communications, volunteer engagement, community engagement, and government relations functions in order to enhance the organization’s brand reputation, donor engagement and community support with a strong emphasis on digital engagement, content, and analysis of data toward audience stewardship and growth.  Directs the activities of staff and volunteers in maximizing engagement and marketing opportunities that positively position United Way of Greater Cincinnati as a leader and convener of multiple community partners to achieve United Way’s strategic goal of breaking the cycle of poverty. Serves as the official media spokesperson. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Create and provide a visible presence in the community, publicize the organization’s
    activities and create awareness of, support for and engagement with the organization year-round and during the annual campaign/other resource development efforts.
  • Promote a digital-first approach toward engagement and technology, seeking first to maximize efficiencies and eliminate redundant campaigns, systems, platforms, and tools.
  • Direct and coordinate implementation of customized communications, media marketing, individual and online strategies and programs targeted at key target audiences and the general public throughout the 10-county, 3-state region, within and beyond the workplace.
  • Ensure the coordination and brand consistency of communications activities within the organization and network by managing the creation and production of digital, print and audio/visual materials.
  • Lead the development and implementation of all volunteer and community engagement efforts that are aligned to United Way’s impact goals, demonstrate authenticity in bringing the community together, and support deeper donor and corporate engagement. Direct the Volunteer Connection team in developing and executing volunteer engagement opportunities for target audiences that build awareness of and connection to United Way’s work.
  • Direct all media and public relations to build brand reputation and trust. Direct the goals, objectives and work of the market research program, including determination of approaches, analyses, reports, management of research data, and selection of both paid and pro bono vendors. Lead crisis communications as needed.
  • Oversee government relations efforts aimed at mobilizing advocates and influencing public policy change in support of United Way’s impact priorities.
  • Work in collaboration with agency, community and initiative partners to present the collective impact we make together in improving the lives of children, families and individuals.
  • Provide managerial leadership to direct reports. Ensure ongoing training and development. Inspire teamwork, within the team and across the organization, and serve as a positive presence as an advocate for change and business transformation.
Educational Background: 
Master’s Degree in Business or Marketing preferred or bachelor’s degree in one of the aforementioned disciplines, or equivalent experience.

  • At least 8 years of experience in increasingly responsible marketing and communications positions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent writing, editing, presenting and verbal interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent relationship building skills and ability to engage and influence a variety of diverse groups/individuals.
  • Strategic thinking and planning skills.
  • Strong management and change leadership experience. Ability to recruit, manage, lead and motivate the work of employees and volunteers.
  • Stress Management: Ability to keep calm under pressure in crisis management.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level knowledge of regional community, all communications media and United Way fundraising desired. 
  • Strong Proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PP, etc.
  • Occasional travel to events within the regional area.
