Development Specialist

The American Heart Association is currently seeking a Development Specialist (location within five state affiliate is flexible). The Development Specialist drives online revenue for assigned Youth Market campaigns and Heart Walk events across the Great Rivers Affiliate through participant support.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Primary external customer support representative.
  • Leads income strategy calls with Youth Market Coordinators, Heart Walk participants.
  • Staffs Heart Walk Live Chat, Youth Market toll-free phone numbers, and centralized e-mail boxes for customer and coordinator questions.
  • Makes outbound phone calls to targeted audiences to drive recruitment, use of the online tools and ultimately online revenue.
  • Assists in the development of online campaigns for assigned Youth Market and Heart Walk events and working collaboratively with assigned Youth Market and Heart Walk teams to drive activity through e-mails, mobile applications, social share features & more.
  • Calls past team captains and top walkers to assist in re-recruitment to the assigned events, and past school coordinators to help re-recruit them for Youth Markets.
  • Support of email campaign set-up; individualized online challenges and contests.
  • Attend national conference calls and virtual mtgs, serve as team lead for notes and example gathering, distribute to team.
  • Assist AHA co-workers with various requests or inquiries and other duties as assigned.
  • Calendar and expense management of Corporate Consultants.
Educational Background: 
Associate’s Degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2-5 years of website and data management experience and expertise
  • Strong written communication, voice-to-voice and face-to-face and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with internal team partners and external volunteer contacts, both large and small audiences
  • Ability to build relationships, trust and effectively work with and through diverse audience of volunteers to educate, develop and inspire action on fundraising initiatives
  • Knowledge or capacity to learn Heart Walk and Youth Market events
  • Skilled in multi-tasking and juggling several projects/events at 1 time
  • Extensive experience with Youth Market and Heart Walk databases and websites, both customer and data functions preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of the Youth Market and Heart Walk revenue streams, especially online income and steps to grow this piece of the campaign preferred
  • Ability to use Microsoft products, computer software, run and read reports and maintain accurate data.
  • Graphic design experience preferred
  • Ability to travel throughout the territories which may include some nights and weekends as needed. Travel approx.10%
