Health Systems Manager, State & Primary Care Systems

This position develops partnerships and strategies to increase colorectal, breast, and cervical cancer screening, increase HPV awareness and vaccination, and reduce tobacco use. Delivers on mission and revenue objectives within an established national non-profit organization.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop high-impact partnerships with state agencies, public health departments, public and private health insurers, quality improvement organizations, related associations and health organizations.
  • Promote an aggressive cancer prevention agenda, including policy, systems, and practice change with state partners. 
  • Collaborate with counterparts in the North Central region (IL, IN, KY, MI, OH, TN and WV) and with other cancer control colleagues (e.g. Primary Care, Hospital Systems, and Mission Delivery teams) to develop shared mission and revenue opportunities.  
  • Support and promote the Illinois Cancer Partnership (ICP), a multi-organizational partnership which is a part of the National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (NCCCP) with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • Convene and facilitate mission-focused roundtables and learning collaboratives to inform and support partners and activate cancer prevention agenda.
  • Engage partners in quality improvement initiatives to help them improve their screening and vaccination rates.
  • Cultivate clinical champions (volunteers) to help advance cancer control priorities.
  • Engage partners in support of Society’s policy agenda and ACS-CAN activities.
  • Assure compliance with all governmental regulations and organizational policies which impact health initiatives and constituent privacy (e.g. HIPPA).
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in public health, health administration, healthcare, nonprofit management or equivalent preferred; graduate degree a plus.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Ability to elevate awareness of cancer as a major health problem across a range of partners and influence partners to adopt cancer control priorities and implement evidence-based strategies.
  • Ability to represent the Society effectively and professionally to population health partners, community leaders, and diverse constituencies.
  • Is an experienced, strategic project manager; can develop plans, budgets and timelines. Is responsive to changing circumstances and priorities; delivers on commitments.
  • Knowledgeable about FQHCs and other safety net healthcare providers, social determinates of health, and health equity.
  • Experience developing grant applications and funding proposals.
  • Maintains general knowledge of science and best practices by monitoring current research and practices, attending trainings and conferences.   
  • Data savvy. Can source data and use to enhance practice; can integrate information from relevant sources and communicate findings to lay audiences.
  • Understands health insurers, health departments, and state agencies and can work within these and other similarly complex organizations.
  • Able to identify potential partners and cultivate relationships and maintain strong market, community, and constituent perspectives. 
  • Willingness to support colleagues’ events, activities, and initiatives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates integrity, creativity, collaboration, and stewardship.
  • Broad knowledge of American Cancer Society, including cancer prevention strategies a plus.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Requires overnight and workday travel---30% 
  • Preferred minimum of three years of experience in public health or population health with a proven record in partner stewardship, revenue development, and effective account management.
