Summary:The paraprofessional is responsible for implementing program objectives as part of a teaching team, providing support to the Master Teachers with all classroom activities. This includes, but is not limited to, implementing curriculum, supervising children, communicating with parents, and providing a health and safe environment for children. The paraprofessional supports at least three children with diagnosed developmental disabilities and may work with multiple classrooms and sites.
Basic Responsibilities:
- Work as a classroom team to support the full inclusion of children with identified and suspected disabilities.
- Work as a classroom team to prepare lesson plans, complete observations, and assess children.
- Follow through with activities, materials, in alignment with the children’s IEP goals throughout the entire school day.
- Read and demonstrate knowledge of children’s IEP’s.
- Individualize for children with identified and suspected disabilities every week as documented in lesson plans.
- Collect behavior data as requested for children with identified concerns.
- Follow through with teacher/clinical/administrative recommendations regarding all aspects of curriculum and programming.
- In conjunction with classroom teacher, maintain consistent communication with the children’s families/guardians.
- Participate in all scheduled team meetings pertaining to classroom.
- Assist in planning field trips.
- Assume complete charge of classroom in absence of other teachers.
- Assume full responsibility for cleaning up after all classroom activities.
- Supervise and participates with children during free play activities.
- Share responsibility for cleaning up classroom after activities.
- Set up the room for activities both in the morning and after naptime.
- Participate in monthly paraprofessional training and monthly paraprofessional meetings.
- Participate in all scheduled in-house trainings throughout the school year.
- Attend parent meetings.
- May require daily travel to other Easterseals sites or community partners to support the inclusion of children with special needs.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Associates or higher in Child Development.
- Paraprofessional certification required within 6 months of employment.
- Experience working with children and with individuals with special needs.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Auto insurance.
- Reliable vehicle.
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to perform all functions necessary to obtain certification in agency required crisis prevention and intervention training, and CPR.
- Ability to multi-task in a high stress environment.
- Ability to interact with diverse personalities.
- Adherence to all Easterseals policies.
