Charleston Habitat for Humanity (CHFH) is seeking a full-time Director of Development to be a part of our unique, inclusive, and impactful nonprofit organization, focused on creating affordable housing opportunities in the greater Charleston area. This position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the fundraising program to ensure the financial growth of Charleston Habitat for Humanity.

The Director of Development will be a true servant leader, collaborating with the staff and board of directors to develop and implement effective and innovative fundraising strategies that support the mission. Through strategic interactions with individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations, he or she will significantly expand philanthropic support promoting program growth and outcomes. He or she will set the organization's strategic fundraising activities to achieve and exceed its revenue goals, while advancing existing and emerging affiliate priorities. This position also builds and manages brand identity and all aspects of marketing communication to raise awareness of the organization and its programs.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage all fundraising efforts;
  • Develop and implement an annual comprehensive development and marketing plan;
  • Integrate CHFH into the philanthropic community through the establishment and maintenance of strategic relationships and lead the solicitation of corporations, foundations, faith based organizations, and individuals to enhance and increase donor base;
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the organization’s fundraising database;
  • Oversee all CHFH special events and fundraisers, including the annual Builder Bash;
  • Ensure progress on the strategic plan as it relates to fund development;
  • Ensures full utilization of fundraising programs and monitors success and results;
  • Provides progress reports and revenue/expense projections to the Executive Director and Accountant, including quarterly development financial reporting, forecasting and annual budgeting;
  • Contributes to an organizational culture of innovation and exemplary performance;
  • Understands and endorses the mission and values of Habitat for Humanity International and Charleston Habitat for Humanity;
  • Refines core messaging and manage consistency of communication over all aspects of affiliate, aligning with Habitat for Humanity International brand standards; and
  • Embraces special projects or assignments as requested and/or other duties as may be assigned.
Education or Experience:
  • 5+ years’ professional development and fundraising experience;
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field;
  • Proven track record in strategic fundraising and the ability to effectively research, identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects and donors;
  • Previous experience working for Habitat for Humanity, or similar non-profit, preferred;
  • Basic graphic design knowledge;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and working in Raiser’s Edge (or donor management databases); and
  • Current driver’s license and a clean driver record.

  • High level of ethics, integrity, diplomacy, initiative, and work ethic;
  • Proven ability to complete multiple projects concurrently while balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, exhibiting grace under pressure;
  • Ability to maintain all information in a confidential and professional manner; and
  • Ability to work beyond the normal work week as required.
