Full-time

AHA is strengthening our efforts in the Major Gifts arena and we have an opportunity for an INDIVIDUAL GIVING ADVISOR LOCATED IN OUR NORTH OR SOUTH CAROLINA REGION (THIS POSITION CAN BE REMOTE AND HOME BASED). In this role, you will secure funds for the organization at the level of $100k+ by managing a group of qualified donors within an assigned territory to include North Carolina and South Carolina. Office location is flexible within the assigned territory.

Areas of Responsibility:

To ensure your success in this role, you will conduct face to face donor and prospective donor visits each year so that you can build and manage an individual portfolio of donors who have the ability to give $100K+ in major gifts. More importantly, your goal will be to raise a minimum of $600K annually for restricted and unrestricted purposes.

Another important role you will play is partner and collaborator. By this, we ask that you work very closely with Field Directors on major gifts strategies as well as the opportunities to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects to support field events and initiatives. This includes:

  • Serving as a resource and leader in forming transformational donor and volunteer relationships across field campaigns, as well as creating and leveraging customized strategic events in select markets to cultivate donor relationships.
  • Attending and supporting North Carolina and South Carolina area market activities and social events, Health Strategies events, and other hallmark events that drive the AHA’s overall unrestricted revenue campaign.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in business, communications, marketing, philanthropy, or related degree.
Skills/Experience:

You will need to have proven experience building your donor base along with the prospects we provide you so strong “hunting” skills are required. You will need to be able to knock on doors, make phone calls and not be afraid to “make the ask”. Other requirements:

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in fundraising or sales with at least one (1) year focused on major gifts or large accounts, preferably supporting large scale research on health and/or community issues.
  • Proven experience with all areas of cultivation, solicitation, and closing sales or fundraising of large scale gifts.
  • Experience in identifying and developing major giving and/or engagement opportunities that align with organizational mission, goals, and strategies at national and local levels.
  • Demonstrated proactive, collaborative skills with all levels of staff, prospects, volunteers, and donors.
  • Knowledge of the philanthropic landscape.
  • Experience using donor relationship management software, such as BBCRM, Blackbaud, Dynamics, and/or Raiser’s Edge.
  • Worked in museums, healthcare or higher education in a medium to large scale Major Gifts group.
Compensation/Benefits:

Attracting talented, committed employees means offering a competitive benefits package, ongoing professional development and training, and a diverse and inclusive environment in which to work and grow. And we do.
