Easter Seals Massachusetts is seeking a Water Exercise Instructor responsible for teaching and supervising water exercise classes at the Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children in Canton, MA.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Teach in accordance to the programming and leadership elements as outlined in the Aquatic Exercise Association certification manual
  • Enforce all MHS and state policies, rules and regulations relative to the pool area
  • Recognize and respond effectively and appropriately to aquatic emergencies by using proper CPR first aid techniques as governed by the American Red Cross and MHS code procedures
  • Protect and maintain the dignity and confidentiality of others during stressful and/or emergency situations
  • Ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations by inspection of pool area for maintenance and potential hazards
  • Report unsafe conditions and faulty equipment to Aquatics Director or supervisor
  • Complete reports and records in a timely manner
  • Participate in continuing education services to maintain certification and improve performance and conditioning
  • Provide education and information to students, staff and MHS community regarding the benefits of aquatic activity, pool rules and state/local safety regulations
Skills/Experience: 
  • Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA) Certification
  • American Red Cross CPR
  • American Red Cross Community First Aid & Safety
  • Must be 18 years of age 

Required Experience:

  • Ability to lead water exercise classes
  • Understanding of contraindications to aquatic exercise
  • Understanding of water principles
  • Understanding of choreography and cueing
  • Display energy, enthusiasm and capable of motivating others
  • Ability to maintain a calm manner in a stressful and/or emergency situation
  • Ability to exercise leadership in group situations
  • Ability to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress
  • Ability to give oral instructions in a precise, understandable, respectful manner
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationship with others
  • Ability to establish rapport with persons from different background including, but not limited to, physical ability, ethnic/cultural, sexual orientation, and/or economic background
