Out of School Social and Emotional Learning Coach

The SLC Coach will be an integral member of the Summer Learning Collaborative team working collaboratively with the Director of SLC, TUFTS Evaluation Team, and SLC Partner Sites. Under the direction of the Director of SLC, the SLC Coach will provide SEL instructional coaching, and support to program staff. The SLC Coach will also support TUFTS and United Way in data collection efforts.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • SLC Coaches will provide support to 3 to 4 SLC Partner Sites located in a specific region. We will select one SLC Coach for each of the following areas in the United Way footprint:
    • Beverly, Lynn, & Salem
    • Cambridge, Somerville, & Waltham
    • Chelsea, Revere, & Winthrop
    • Lowell
    • Lowell & Haverhill
  • Consult with SLC Partner Site staff concerning SEL programming and delivery of curriculum and strategies
  • Oversee the completion of the DESSA Mini-Assessment (Pre and Post) along with the student demographic questionnaire across all 3-4 sites and submit all data directly to the TUFTS Evaluation Team
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the United Way Director and/or TUFTS Evaluation Team

 SEL Coaching

  • Support SLC Partner Site Staff in integrating SEL practices in summer program structures, scheduling, and day to day activities.
  • Provide coaching and attend planning and learning time to reinforce integrating social-emotional practice into the design of instruction and content.
  • Model and coach the delivery of social and emotional learning lessons using various coaching models (one-on-one settings, peer coaching, observe and model lessons; co-plan and co-teach lessons) and provide debrief and feedback sessions when applicable
  • Provide coaching to SLC Site Staff to support social-emotional learning across different settings during the summer months
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in Education or similar field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience teaching/coaching in urban schools and/or out-of-school time programs.
  • Deep knowledge of SEL competencies, child development, and learning frameworks; applied knowledge of SEL research, evaluation, strategies, theories, techniques, and methods of instruction.
  • Experience planning and conducting meetings and/or trainings; comfortable in facilitation for large groups.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; Google Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Drive.
  • Ability to travel between multiple SLC sites
  • Agree to complete all necessary background checks: CORI, NSOPW, & FBI Fingerprinting

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience (classroom teaching and/or coaching) in a variety of settings or grades.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Instructional leadership experience.
  • Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills with successful experience designing and delivering professional learning opportunities that motivate adults.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the relationship of equity, access, and opportunity.
  • Demonstrated growth toward cultural proficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal skills using and the ability to attend, listen to show, patience, and courtesy.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with an eye on detail.
  • Effective time management skills to plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines in more than one location.
  • Engage in continuous learning and be committed to own professional growth in areas which support or improve delivery and implementation of SEL programming.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to create trusting relationships; strong reputation as a collaborator.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: Less than $20,000 per year
