UWMB seeks an experienced professional to join the Community Impact team and work with staff, volunteers, community residents, organizations, and leaders to further UWMB’s mission to catalyze our collective resources to create financial opportunity for individuals and families across our region. The Director will bring a deep understanding of the field of financial empowerment, including the barriers that vulnerable populations face to achieving financial wellbeing and the programs, tools, and resources that support them. The Director will use this knowledge to effectively manage and grow UWMB’s strategies to achieve the following goals:
- All individuals and families have safe, permanent, affordable housing.
- All adults have jobs that allow them to support themselves and their families.
- All adults are able to meet their basic needs and achieve a state of financial wellbeing.
Strategic Leadership
- Build partnerships with nonprofits and manage a portfolio of grantees with the purpose of:
- Ensuring essential business is transacted smoothly and efficiently
- Sharing best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement with agencies in the pursuit of UWMB’s community goals
- Monitoring agency performance and contributions as well as understanding the needs of the field
- Fostering and brokering relationships among UWMB partners and other stakeholders that will lead to the achievement of community impact goals
- Build and maintain a broad range of relationships in the community. Represent UWMB at community meetings, agency events, statewide and local coalitions/task forces, donor meetings, and other opportunities.
- Actively participate in developing funding priorities around Financial Opportunity goals and participate in the implementation of fund distribution strategies.
Program Leadership
- Assume responsibility for implementation and oversight of specific UWMB-led programs in the Financial Opportunity impact area including the Working Families Network of Massachusetts. Specific responsibilities include:
- Oversee the Financial Empowerment Learning Institute (professional development).
- Coordinate the Financial Coaching and Supervisors Community of Practice.
- Provide technical assistance to direct-service providers practicing financial coaching for low-income and vulnerable populations. A subset of agencies also operates as financial opportunity centers by providing integrated financial coaching, employment services, and public benefits access.
- Oversee data collection and evaluation efforts including the launch of a new performance management system. Implement quality control measures.
- Work with other UWMB departments to raise awareness and funds for programs, including grants and meeting with individual donors and corporate partners.
- Work with engagement staff to build volunteer and community engagement opportunities including one-time and ongoing opportunities, skills-based volunteering, volunteer recruitment and training, awareness and education events, etc.

- Minimum of 3-5 years relevant field experience including designing and implementing financial opportunity programming.
- Experience with nonprofit management and comfort in collaborating with leaders in the field.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
- Excellent writing, editing, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Experience using and providing support for client database systems.
- Experience analyzing and using data to inform and improve program performance and outcomes.
- Travel throughout UWMB footprint required; use of car helpful.

Salary: $51,000 to $60,000 per year
