The Development Associate, under the direction of the Director of Development, will assist in the management of key operational tasks of our annual campaign and additional fundraising efforts throughout the year, including tracking and processing philanthropic requests, pledges and contributions.  The Development Associate will manage and update the donor database, respond to member queries and requests. The Development Associate will be required to compile reports, access and analyze member and donor data, and conduct general donor research. Other responsibilities include managing donor lists and preparing mailing materials such as invitations, solicitations and newsletters.
 

The successful candidate will be detail oriented and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.  It will be essential to have strong interpersonal skills, and to maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion when dealing with donors, members and lay leaders.  The Development Associate will ensure that all ambassadors (board, staff and clergy) have what they need to be successful in their efforts to increase financial resources.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Development Department Support:

  • Support the Friends Annual Fund by coordinating mailings, running reports, and setting up campaign logistics and managing pledge payments
  • Provide accurate and timely processing of gifts on a daily basis, and communicate accordingly with Director of Development
  • Liaise with Finance department to appropriately process and code gifts (checks and credit cards) to the correct fund
  • Maintain donor database, records, and files
  • Assist with background research of donor and campaign prospects
  • Support and attend the annual gala, Stepping Out, with event logistics (registration, print and communication materials, and post-event follow up)  
  • Manage High Holy Day ticketing including member, non-member and reciprocal requests


 

Skills/Experience: 

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (written and oral communication skills, including phone presence)
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously (start new projects and carry them to completion with little supervision)
  • Meticulous attention to detail, even under tight deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and superb time-management skills a must
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt to shifting priorities
  • High computer literacy: adept in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and familiarity with databases (particularly Salesforce)
  • Ability to interact with confidentiality, integrity, and tact when working within a diverse community
  • Familiarity with Jewish lifecycle and an appreciation for the importance of a synagogue in a Jewish community

 

Compensation/Benefits: 

​Hours are generally 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours, including major Jewish holidays, and special events.
