Summary:
The Program Assistant is an integral member of the team. This position is responsible for three main areas within the center: Program Services, Group Facilitation, and Care Plan Management.
Basic Responsibilities:Program Services:
- Assist staff and participants in all aspects of program activities
- Work with other staff to share ideas, seek assistance, and implement programs.
- Follow occupational therapist and nursing guidance while assisting participants.
- Provide assistance to participants when standing, walking or transferring.
- Maintain participant dignity and self-respect
- Maintain safe, sanitary, and organized environment.
Group Facilitation:
- Design and schedule meaningful and appropriate group activities.
- Supervise and facilitate activities to include games, crafts, reading and music.
- Lead and encourage participants in prescribed exercise programs
- Develop alternate activities addressing participant needs.
- Ensure each participant gains something from activities.
Care Plan Management:
- Follow HIPPA guidelines for protected health information and participant privacy.
- Follow established protocols for assigned participant care plans.
- Write individualized, legible, and accurate care plan progress notes.
- Participate in care plan development and review meetings
General Services:
- Assist with lunch service and clean-up
- Perform set-up, closing and activity clean-up duties
- Assist nursing staff with participant personal care needs
- Attend regular staff meetings
- Perform other such duties as may be assigned
Qualifications:
- A high school graduate or the equivalent
- At least 18 years of age
- Prior experience working in health care, aging services, and/or services for people with disabilities (preferred).
- Flexible schedule of availability.
- CPR/First Aid certification and Food Handler’s Card within first 30 days of hire.
- Nursing Assistant certification and experience a plus.
- Must pass DSHS background check (and FBI fingerprint check if a Washington resident for less than three (3) years).
- Must have proof of U.S. citizenship or right to work.
INTER-RELATIONSHIPS
Responsible for maintaining relationships with many individuals. Frequent contacts may include supervisors, coworkers, participants, and family members/care providers on a regular basis. A professional demeanor and flexible approach are required, as is knowledge of who to refer to when faced with an unfamiliar issue.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most duties will be carried out in the program and on program grounds. Occasional travel to other offices and/or program facilities may be necessary. Physical requirements include:
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. up to 20 times per day
- Ability to frequently change position: stand, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, twist and carry
- Must be highly flexible and adaptable, able to respond quickly to the changing needs of participants, families and EADS Day Services
- Work hours may vary to meet the needs of the participants and program.
