The Vice President, Resource Development, reporting directly to the President and CEO, is a results-driven, donor-focused leader and fundraiser with an understanding of the local community, the business environment and the United Way network. S/he has a relentless focus on gaining the unrestricted resources to support Capital Area United Way’s mission and strategic objectives. The VP is visible in the community, engages, listens and understands donor and corporate partner priorities and aspirations. Engages these groups intentionally and strategically in order to leverage both financial and volunteer capital in a way that helps execute CAUW’s work. S/he builds and leads a diverse team of staff and volunteers that enables CAUW to meet its resource development and corporate engagement goals. S/he leads efforts that create opportunities for innovation and value while embracing the ambiguity of leading in the nonprofit sector. S/he is adept and building and maintaining positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. S/he is an effective communicator articulating CAUW’s vision, mission, and value in a way that inspires others to act in service to CAUW and the community.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Through employee’s own efforts or through delegation to key staff:

Annual Workforce Campaign Planning, Management, and Implementation:

  • Recruit companies (at least 30) and manage Pace Setter campaigns.
  • Plan and manage the corporate call program for workplace and major gifts accounts, including planning and Corporate Call Packet preparation.
  • Develop and implement Unit Solicitation Plans and Workplace Campaign strategies.
  • Plan and lead the campaign goal development process.
  • Integrate leadership giving strategies (including major gifts) and goals in the overall workforce campaign work plan.
  • Ensure success of all campaigns (workforce, special event, major gifts, and direct solicitation) success is measured by achieving an overall 3% to 5% annual increase.
  • Work with Vice President Community Impact to develop a consistent communication strategy for the department as a whole to be utilized in all printed material, social media, and oral presentations, particularly in relation to revenue projection.

Volunteer Recruitment, Training and Management:

  • Recruit, train and manage the Workforce Campaign Cabinet (Unit Chairs and Group Chairs) with direct and frequent communication and coordination with Campaign Chair and Vice-Chair.
  • Recruit, train, and manage the Major Gifts and Leadership Giving Committee (Alexis DE Tocqueville and Gottleib Society) with direct and frequent communication and coordination with the chair and vice-chair.
  • Plan and coordinate Campaign Cabinet meetings.
  • Manage and assist in recruiting, training and managing Division Chairs, Corporate Solicitors, Campaign Ambassadors, Campaign Coordinators and Leadership Giving Campaign Coordinators.
  • Manage Corporate Solicitor and speaker bureau Training, Employee Campaign Coordinator Training and other volunteer training sessions as needed.

New and Lapsed Account Recruitment and Management:

  • Lead efforts to grow CAUW corporate campaigns by actively prospecting for new workforce campaign accounts.
  • Develop an annual plan for “winning back” lapse workforce campaign accounts as well as major and leadership donors.
  • Ensure that adequate staff and volunteer resources are committed to new and lapsed accounts.

Major Gifts and Leadership Giving Management

  • Maintain a portfolio of top corporate leadership and individual donors and prospects that are engaged and growing in financial contributions to CAUW.
  • Lead the reestablishment efforts of the CAUW Legacy and Planned Giving Society’s.
  • Provide support and leadership in the recruitment and retention of new donors to the Gottleib Society and Alexis De Tocqueville Society ensuring that donors are asked, thanked, and informed and have a customized individual experience with CAUW.

Community-Wide Campaign Incentives:

  • In coordination with the Vice President, Community Impact solicit and secure incentives, sponsorships and giveaway’s in support of the annual workforce campaign as well as Special Event Fundraising (Jambalaya Jam and Home for Good)
  • Ensure coordination between CAUW sponsorships and incentives and those that corporate partners use for their internal campaigns.
  • Expand the portfolio of hospitality and restaurants that contribute in-kind sponsorships and incentives in support of the CAUW Campaign

Mobile and online Giving:

  • Promote and manage the creation and management of the online giving strategies including staff skill development for the creation of new, more detailed electronic pledging donor sites, the creation and maintenance of a standard donor site for local companies to use, the development of customized online donor sites for targeted company campaigns and the improvement of Campaign staff’s understanding of effective ways to use online pledging.
  • In coordination with the Vice Presidents, Community Impact, develop ongoing peer-to-peer and cause-related giving opportunities, corporate foundations, individual donors, and CAUW affinity groups using the text-to-mobile and GiveCorps platform.

Salary: $71,000 to $80,000 per year
