Director of Development - Go Red For Women

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Director of Development, Go Red for Women in our Baltimore, MD office!

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for the achievement of the GRFW financial/campaign goal and for the achievement of the objectives in volunteer development and management and corporate sponsorship cultivation. Monitors and fulfills both procurement and financial goals
  • Provides primary staff support, in the areas of volunteer recruitment, orientation and training, event logistics, year-round planning and implementation, sponsorship solicitation and evaluation of GRFW event
  • Assists in the development of a strategic fund-raising plan, including goal setting, market potentials, objectives, strategies, successor plans, assists in planning and implementing sponsorship goals and objectives, and evaluation and cost of effective techniques. Monitors the volunteer recruitment, budgets and implementation of the plan
  • Recruits, trains, organizes, and supports the volunteers of the Executive Leadership Team, Medical Committee, Circle of Red Committee, Open Your Heart Committee, Auction Committee, and Logistics Committee. Oversees the recruitment of Co-Chairs and Honoree, as appropriate
  • Develops corporate relationships to enhance community wide special events and programs. Establishes and maintains an effective database and cultivation plan for corporate prospects and donors
  • Serves as American Heart Association staff and support to the annual GRFW event and the committee and its sub-committees. Schedules regular committee meetings to track progress and update timeline
  • In accordance with best practices, becomes proficient with current GRFW software program and utilizes software to track and produce reports to evaluate event and maintains appropriate records for the GRFW event
  • Effectively supervises and directs support staff in administrative work necessary to achieve objectives
  • Supports and ensures execution of National and Affiliate policies, procedures, standards, best practices, benchmarks, and guidelines
  • Collaborates with other AHA staff and volunteers as needed to promote and support local initiatives and to optimize gala market strategy and consistency.
  • Ensures the integrity and security of donor information and adheres to the Affiliate’s Special Event Cash Handling policies
  • Other duties and projects may be assigned to the role, which provide general assistance as needed to support the mission of the American Heart Association.
Educational Background: 
BA or BS degree or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising principles, practices, techniques and current trends
  • Experience in event planning, organizing, consultation, and volunteer management
  • Ability to recruit, manage and evaluate high level volunteers for appropriate utilization
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation and training
  • Ability to organize and prioritize large events and multiple projects
  • Ability to read, comprehend and analyze number goals and fundraising reports
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout assigned geographical territory and to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Ability to use relevant tools (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail and database programs and voice mail).

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 1-3 years’ work experience, preferably in territory sales or special event fundraising with a voluntary health agency or related field.
