Under general direction of physicians for the performance of the provision of reproductive health nursing care to PPM patients and under the general direction of the Regional Director for the operational and administrative performance, the Registered Nurse coordinates and monitors medical services, including medications in accordance with the requirements of regulatory agencies and in response to individual client needs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Responsible for medication preparation, administration, and patient monitoring in accordance with PPM Standards and Guidelines and applicable regulations.
- Assist Physician during surgical procedures. Check chart to assure all lab work, history, vital signs, education and consents are properly executed and recorded before procedure begins.
- Prepare Recovery Room for a surgical day with appropriate medications, patient information and equipment.
- Provide nursing care to patients in recovery room . Reviews charts to assure complete documentation. Completes data requests for reporting requirements.
- Perform sonograms, medical histories, counseling, vitals, lab, etc. as needed .
- Upon patient discharge, assures all patients are stable, have emergency numbers, plans for post op check, and all ordered medications and contraception.
- Participates in the quality assurance and improvement program.
- Assists with management of follow-up systems.
- Maintains medications/crash cart with ordering, inventory and logs. Ensures proper functioning of equipment.
- Documents services in the electronic medical record.
- Provides patient education relating to abortion care and family planning.
- Maintains current Nursing license and ACLS and provides documentation of renewal.
- Maintains good working relationship with other management staff and works cooperatively with health center personnel.
- Travels to surgical sites as scheduled.
- Able to work at other Planned Parenthood of Maryland locations within a 50 mile radius.
Skills/Experience:
- Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to minimum of:
- Possession of a valid Registered Nurse license; and
- Two (2) years of experience working as a nurse, including some OB/GYN experience preferred.
- ACLS certification required.
- Experience with obstetric sonography or willingness to learn.
- Willingness to support the mission of Planned Parenthood of Maryland.
