We accomplish our mission with four strategies: Community Schools, Hands On Asheville-Buncombe Volunteer Center, NC 2-1-1 Information and Referral service, and investments in health and human service nonprofit organizations.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop and implement a process that streamlines volunteer recruitment and management and clearly defines roles between United Way and Community School Strategy partners.
- Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment plan for caring adults to work with local students. Serve as project manager and work with marketing team to develop stories and tools.
- Recruit volunteers for internal needs at United Way.
- Plan and manage all components of the Back-to-School Supply Drive.
- Develop and manage special days of volunteer service, including the MLK Day of Service and support for Days Of Impact.
- Track/organize data for volunteer activities and impact. Analyze and identify data tracking efficiencies with coworkers.
- Maintain positive and regular communication with agency/school contacts regarding their volunteer needs. Provide assistance to help them best utilize Hands On website.
- Oversee all aspects of Hands On Managed projects: Flex and Portable.
- Serve as a point person regarding available volunteer opportunities.
- Represent and promote Hands On and United Way at community events and volunteer fairs.

Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience:
- 2 years of experience in nonprofit management, volunteer management, project management, or recruitment.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Technology skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office, database management and a willingness to learn new applications.
- Demonstrated project management and strategic planning capabilities.
- General attributes include: strong self-motivation, ability to work independently and in teams, reliability, ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, creativity, and positive attitude.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours required.
- Valid driver’s license
- Occasionally responsible for moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
Desirable, But Not Required
- 1-3 years of volunteer management experience, directly recruiting and managing volunteers.
- Ability to operate in a Google Suite environment and Asana - project management platform.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $31,000 to $40,000 per year
