Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 depending on location and experience

No Means No Worldwide (NMNW) is looking for an experienced nonprofit grants accountant who can strengthen and implement our financial management systems to ensure that we operate with fiscal responsibility as we continue to scale programming globally. The successful candidate will have expertise in managing complex multi-donor financial systems and an ability to work effectively and embody NMNW’s values within a diverse global team. 

 

The NMNW Finance and Grants Manager will provide oversight of all financial accounting and reporting activities of NMNW. They will utilize and strengthen the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation that complies with all contractual obligations, including U.S. federal grant requirements. This position will manage the process and implement the financial systems needed to support substantial growth and complexity of the organization. 

 

The role will be full-time, reporting to the Director of Operations and Finance. They may work remotely or in-person if based in a location where other NMNW staff are present. Domestic and international travel is anticipated approximately 1-3 times each year, not to exceed 5% of time. Salary is commensurate with experience. Applicants must have the right to travel to and work in the United States. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Financial Management

  • Work closely with NMNW’s Bookkeeper, Director of Operations and Finance, Programs staff, and outsourced financial management firms to manage all financial activities: monthly closings, expenditure allocation, general ledger reconciliations, payroll, monthly expense reporting, bill payment, tax preparation, expense reimbursements, etc. 

  • Ensure that all financial expenditures are consistently aligned with specific grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period. 

  • Track spending against grant budgets, identify potential problem areas, and propose potential solutions.

  • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting by working closely with senior leadership. 

  • Support the annual budgeting and planning process; update current operating budget, and actively develop forecasts and projections.

  • Support in preparing financial information to be shared with the Board of Directors.

  • Support the annual auditing process and serve as a key point of contact for the auditing firm.

 

Grant Management and Compliance

  • Support program staff who monitor and report on the performance of all grants with respect to the activities, deliverables, and milestones agreed upon in their funding proposals and provide financial information that can be integrated into reports.

  • Ensure that NMNW complies with all contractual obligations, financial reporting requirements, and all other funder guidelines.

  • Ensure that all uses of funds are properly prepared, reviewed, approved, and documented, in line with all appropriate policies, procedures, authority levels, and local laws, and ensure that this information is properly filed and entered into the accounting system.

  • Oversee and enforce the system for the procurement of all goods and services, following U.S. government rules and regulations where applicable.

  • Draft and manage a calendar of reports due and individual timelines for all grants.

  • Support business development functions by helping to prepare proposal budgets that are accurate and cover reasonable expenses. 

  • Ensure that proposal budget narratives and supporting notes are accurate and complete.

  • Establish and sustain relationships with relevant local NGOs, CBOs, donor agencies, and government authorities as necessary.

  • Support the design and management of sub-grants to partners as needed. 

 

Systems Development and Leadership

  • Lead the development and/or refinement of a set of internal financial controls, systems, and reporting functionality that meets requirements for U.S. government funding compliance and are in line with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Design, develop and maintain a grants management database, filing system, and oversight procedures for all grant agreements and financial reports.

  • Provide back-end support, review, and guidance for the staff timesheet system, and train and monitor all staff to ensure correct and timely use of the system.

  • Develop and institute a process to create and review budget vs. actual report with key staff monthly, and update projections at those meetings.

  • Conduct grant kickoff calls with relevant staff for any new grant received to ensure staff understand the objectives, activities, and reporting responsibilities for all new grants.

Educational Background: 
Degree in a relevant field
Skills/Experience: 

Required

  • Degree in a relevant field.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a senior operations role.

  • A track record in grant management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate, and foundation grants.

  • Experience with major development donors including U.S. government agencies (USAID, CDC) is strongly preferred.

  • Strong experience managing financial reporting, budget development and analysis, general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, income tax, and banking.

  • Demonstrated ability with reviewing, creating, and implementing new systems and approaches to financial and grant management.

  • Experience designing and managing sub-grants to partner organizations strongly preferred.

  • Technology-savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software.

  • Ability to effectively translate financial concepts to programmatic and technical colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.

  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimum supervision, be a self-starter, team builder, and innovative; demonstrate the capacity for maintaining high professional standards and a positive, can-do attitude in a rapid growth setting.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, effectively managing multiple priorities.

  • Passionate about ending sexual violence against women and children with an enthusiastic commitment to NMNW’s history and mission.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 depending on location and experience
