The Development Manager serves as the primary spokesperson for IEUW in the Desert Communities region and is responsible for achieving fundraising goals and objectives for the region. This individual will provide strategic and collaborative leadership focused on building awareness of IEUW’s role in the community and identify new funding sources for the organization. Responsibilities include building and growing relationships with corporate and community partners, coordinating fundraising campaigns, serving as the primary contact for the region and assisting with fundraising activities and events throughout the year. This full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Director of Development.
- Assume a leadership role responsible for achieving the annual fundraising goals and objectives that support the overall mission of IEUW, particularly focused on the DC region
- Represent IEUW at community functions and speaking engagements, presenting a professional image and advocating for effective community impact
- Identify, cultivate and solicit donors and prospective donors in the DC region, including individuals, businesses, foundations/private grants and government sources
- Facilitate planning and implementation of fundraising events and annual workplace giving campaigns to produce increased resource development results
- Develop and implement goals and strategies for new business development
- Conduct a significant number of one-on-one contact calls/visits per week with new business development prospects to build/maintain year-round relationships
- Facilitate employee workplace giving throughout the region through company prospect development, relationship management, campaign planning, establishment of company goals, campaign presentations and collection of employee pledge results
- Develop and maintain strong effective relationships with the CEO, Campaign Coordinators and other key employees within the company to provide quality customer service
- Annually prepare and review a comprehensive analysis for each assigned account
- Provide training, direction and support to Campaign Coordinators, including goal setting, task identification, establishing leadership support, motivating, scheduling and recognition
- Review and monitor campaigns during and upon completion to identify problem areas and determine solutions
- Maintain accurate and complete records on assigned accounts, reflecting changes in key personnel, number of employees, campaign history and frequency of contacts
- Identify and implement strategies for building awareness of United Way’s brand and impact in the DC region, including representing and speaking at various community functions and networking groups
- In coordination with the Marketing Manager, assist in the development of marketing messages, campaigns and materials for effectively communicating IEUW’s impact and call to action through printed material, website, media relations, social networking and other emerging technologies
- Research, develop and implement strategies to improve fundraising impact, efficiency, and cost effectiveness to ensure the goals of the annual campaign are met
- Track, follow-up, and collect funds, campaign results and pledges from companies/employees for submission to the Finance Department
- Provide support for IEUW events and activities
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years fundraising and/or customer service experience in a nonprofit, governmental or for-profit corporate environment or equivalent combination of higher education and experience
- Excellent management skills, including planning, communication, systems utilization, organization and reporting
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Ability to build, renew and maintain relationships with individuals, community groups, agencies, organizations, businesses and institutions
- Must exhibit enthusiasm for serving people, working with volunteers/community leaders, and collaborating with other professionals
- Exceptional, professional written and oral communication skills
- Effective presenter to donors and public groups
- Able “closer” in active solicitation efforts
- Strong initiative, flexibility, judgment and decision-making; able to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and projects simultaneously; ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Strong computer skills with an understanding of Microsoft Office, Customer Relations Management software, Email and web-based marketing tools
- Able to effectively utilize internet-based tools, social media, spreadsheets and run reports
- Must be available and able to work outside traditional office hours, including some evenings and weekends
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid California driver’s license, proof of minimum required California vehicle liability insurance, and a good driving record
