PSI/Madagascar seeks a Senior Marketing Technical Advisor to lead the marketing technical area of an anticipated $25M - $49.99M 5-year USAID-funded project in Madagascar. The project will improve health product availability and accessibility in Madagascar through a total market initiative (TMI), with the goal to ensure that quality pharmaceuticals and health commodities are available and accessible to all Malagasy people on a sustainable basis through coordinated efforts of the public, private, and commercial sectors.
The Senior Marketing Technical Advisor is expected to have significant experience in total market approaches, private sector consumer and/or commercial marketing, preferably in Madagascar.
The Senior Marketing Technical Advisor will be responsible for guiding PSI’s application of the Total Market Initiative (TMI) approach and building the capacity of all health system actors (public, private, commercial) to understand the total market systems, address market failures and design interventions that result in sustainable health outcomes at scale. The Senior Marketing TA will also be responsible for piloting and developing innovative and sustainable social marketing strategies for a broad range of health products, spanning multiple health areas. He/She will be in charge of translating successful marketing approaches to a range of external stakeholders. This position will report to the project Chief of Party with a dotted line to the Director, Global Social Marketing.
- Work with partners to understand the capacity, barriers and incentives across market players and use this information to develop go-to-market strategies for existing and new products.
- Lead the PSI-led consortium in conducting TMI initiatives including TMI assessments, workshops and any other TMI activities.
- Improve PSI’s knowledge management, collecting examples of excellent TMI and marketing from the field and sharing with the rest of the social marketing community.
- Provide leadership for the development and implementation of innovative product and services 4P (promotion, product, price, place) strategies.
- Assist Program Departments with budget development and management of TMI and social marketing activities.
- Ensure the promotion of socially-marketed and generic products or product categories using relevant communication channels (mass, mid, IPC, medical detailing).
- Lead the assessment of opportunities to maximize cost-efficiencies of the social marketing program in Madagascar.
- Command of profit & loss statements and COGS analysis.
- Drive the development and adoption of efficient and cost-effective sales and distribution systems for socially marketed commodities in commercial and private channels.
- Lead PSI’s efforts to develop a sustainability plan for social marketing.
- Advise the team regarding the marketing aspects of designing, developing and launching new socially-marketed product and services.
- Other marketing functions as required.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to combine an entrepreneurial attitude with grounded, evidence-based decision making.
- Experience in market dynamics, industrial and health economics, business model development.
- Ability to conduct market assessments and analysis, including market landscape research and market sizing activities.
- Proven record of leading marketing activities in the private sector (at least 5 years)
- At least 6 years of experience living or working in a developing country (previous Madagascar experience preferred).
- Experience with marketing and qualitative & quantitative research studies.
- Proven record of cross department coordination, excellent management, leadership, decision making and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience building the capacity of in-country programs and organizations to improve marketing of products and services.
- Effective English oral and written communications skills.
- Fluency in French and English is required. Ability to form productive cross-cultural work relationships.
- Skilled in analysis and problem solving with excellent project management skills.
- Evidence of ability to work independently and to lead small groups to consensus.
- Ability to present information persuasively to a wide variety of audiences.
