The Strategy and Innovation team brings collaborative, startup energy to the biggest challenges faced by communities and United Way. We name what makes United Way unique and the steps we need to take to succeed (strategy), test and incubate new ideas (innovation), and help United Way work together in new, big, and modern ways (partnership).

The US Network Team brings a collaborative, practical approach to helping United Ways increase local performance in community impact, fundraising, and relevance. Our work includes relationship management with United Ways, performance consulting to support their work, and partnership efforts.

Has overall responsibility for directing the daily work activities of the team. Is responsible for developing work plan(s) to support the achievement of the annual business plan for its assigned Group. Serves as a member of the leadership team for the Strategy Innovation and US Network groups.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The VP of Network Partnership helps architect and build United Way’s new operating approach of linking hundreds of United Ways together in shared decision-making and execution. Responsibilities include:

  • Design and facilitate group decisions: Facilitate large number of United Ways reaching common understanding, decisions, and aligned activity. Design meeting cadence and facilitate meetings to build clarity. Develop clear pre-reads, presentations, and summaries.
  • Measurement and Accountability: Track and measure progress related to expansion of the partner United Ways. Set growth targets and timeline to ensure the success of key partnership deliverables.
  • Communicate with stakeholders: Design and create effective communications for multiple audiences – partner United Ways, United Way network as whole, internal United Way Worldwide, and more.
  • Manage relationships: Quickly create open and trusting relationships with people and organizations. Deepen relationships over time through performance and honesty. Manage and track at large scale.
  • Improve partnership initiatives: Liaise between a board-like group of “managing partners” and the projects they authorize. Improve project performance as partnership expert and strategic adviser.
  • Major Market relationships: Facilitate relationships among United Ways in the largest US markets as well as United Way Worldwide. Help these largest United Ways understand each other and work together to reach new heights locally and as a network.
  • Coordinate internally at United Way Worldwide: Facilitate internal coordination with teammates at United Way Worldwide – planning, communication, and execution. Connect and provide strategic leadership for the broader efforts of US Network and Strategy & Innovation teams.
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of expert-level experience in a similar role.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Additionally, this position requires a minimum of five years of previous people management experience, and five to ten years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience with nonprofit association dynamics, collaboration, and performance consulting. Adept at relationship management, communication, and meeting design. Successful candidates will be hard workers, continuous learners, self-starters, fun, and possess a collaborative leadership style.
