As the Director you will be responsible for accounting and required compliance filings (legal/governmental) related to UWW’s operating units outside the USA. Includes the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, preparation of interim internal financial reports, management of unit governance matters, coordination with external auditors/record keepers to ensure compliance with foreign governmental filing requirements. Together with the Controller, coordinates the consolidation of UWW financial statements for annual audit and IRS Form 990. Collaborates with all levels of UWW International Network management teams and serves as a member of the leadership team for the UWW Controller’s group.
Accounting:
- Coordinate with the Director of Payroll and Special Projects to establish banking relationships, accounting systems/support, etc. for new international operating units
- Responsible for accurate record keeping of deposits and payments of UWW international operating units.
- Responsible for initiation of all required funds transfers to/from UWW international operating units to ensure adequate funds available at international banks for payment of unit expenses, including payrolls.
- Responsible for timely and accurate month-end general ledger close of international operating units
- Review monthly bank reconciliations prepared by the Manager of Financial Reporting and or external bookkeepers to ensure the accuracy of financial statements
- Responsible for communicating transactions to external bookkeepers and review/comparison of UWW unit records to externally maintained unit records to ensure accuracy of reporting to local governmental units.
- Assist the Controller in review and implementation of all new accounting standards and tax regulations related to countries where operating units exist
Financial Reporting:
- Coordinate with Sr. Director of Budget and Cash Management in preparation of the annual budgets for international operating units and ensure budgets are loaded into the accounting software on a timely basis
- Responsible for active monitoring of budget varriances and consulting with leaders of international operating units on options for proactively correcting negative variances
- Support the Controller in the review and preparation of quarterly consolidated financial statements.
- Responsible for the coordination with the Controller on execution of the annual financial statement audit of UWW and its international operating units
- Responsible for assisting the Controller in preparation of the annual audited financial statements and related footnote disclosures
- Responsible for preparation of (or arranging for preparation of) timely and accurate international operating unit(s) governmentally required periodic filiings.
Policy/Procedure:
- Support the Controller in the implementation, review and update of written financial policies and procedures with emphasis on the balance between effective internal controls and performance efficiency
- Responsible for periodic review of international Finance policies and procedures to ensure best practices are applied in all areas of the international operating units
- Coordinate with the Controller on periodic review of international banking procedures to ensure compliance with international banking regulations
Leadership:
- Responsible for ensuring required governance matters/activities related to international operating units are timely executed and properly documented to ensure compliance with organizational bylaws and operating country legal requirements.
- Assist the Controller in developing strategy for successful execution of organizational goals and initiatives through effective application of existing and new technologies.
- Assist the Controller with providing support to the UWW international network via participation in work groups/committees, planning for the UWW Finance, Talent, and Technology Forum, and creation of other learning opportunities for finance/operational staff of international network members
- Coordinate with and support the Director of International Membership Accountabilty’s financial review process for International Network members
Other Duties and/or special projects as directed by the CFO and/or Controller
- At least 6 years of financial management experience in a charitable organization that has operations outside the USA.
- Additionally, this position requires a minimum of three years of experience with international grantmaking/charitable reporting and fluency in at least one language other than English.
