To develop and oversee the expansion and delivery of the policy and advocacy work for UWSC. In conjunction with the President & CEO as well as the Senior Leadership Team develop key agenda items that engage our legislative body and move our impact work to the next level. This position will focus on our public policy agenda, and the implementation of our advocacy work in our local community through the building of advocates in the community.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Create: Work with our public policy committee to continue to shape and evolve our policy agenda work. This agenda should be nimble and flexible enough to address the constant change landscape of the legislative work of our local, state and federal government. (25%)
- Lead: Lead our volunteers, donors and elected officials in ensuring the policy aim of UWSC is aligned and understood in each of these segment groups. In leading this effort, this position will spend time developing the strategy for the policy engagement and how it will be implemented. (25%)
- Engage: our volunteers, donors, constituents and elected officials in the process and communications of our work. The communication of the policy implications of our Bold Goals is vital to the overall success of the organization. The involvement through of engagement of these groups will be necessary on an ongoing basis. (25%)
- Collaborate: with outside organizations that are like-minded that can help work with us on achieving success in our policy work. Build and sustain relationships within these organizations to ensure we are at the table and involved in the work. (25%)
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Social Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration or similar required; an advanced degree is preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- 3 years of leadership within United Way system requested, but not required. In lieu of UW experience 5+ years of community collaboration in a leadership role.
- Competent in MS Office products.
- Interest in the improvement of the Summit County community.

PHYSICAL/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office, walking, climbing stairs.
- Must be able to sit, stand, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop.
- Extensive reading.
- Minimal lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Must be willing to work non-standard work schedule including nights, weekends, and other unusual hours on occasion.
- After-hours event attendance occasionally.
- Some overnight travel may be required.
- Valid driver license and proof of insurance.
- Access to reliable insured automobile to be used for work-related travel in Summit County area.
